World History 1450AD- current 7 th Grade Social Studies Mr. Gilson ASPIRATIONs What is an aspiration? aspiration [as-puh-rey-shuhn] noun 1. strong desire, longing, or aim 2. a goal or objective desired ASPIRATIONs 1. Learn to articulate scholarly views about the world in which we live, and its history. In other words, we need to be able to talk about the world and its history in intelligent ways ASPIRATIONs 2. Skillfully represent their knowledge in writing and speech. In other words, we need to be able to write and say what we mean. And it must be OUR work, not someone elses. ASPIRATIONs 3. Be prepared to participate, compete, and excel in a global economy. In other words, the world is changing. We need to be ready to meet tomorrows challenges. ASPIRATIONs 4. Be inspired to grow academically and as a member of their community. In other words, when we become better students, we become better members of our community. ASPIRATIONs How big is your community? ASPIRATIONs 5. Feel respected, valued, and safe in this classroom. In other words, we are all responsible to be sure that everyone feels respected. Respect people, their ideas, and their belongings. ASPIRATIONs 6. Become aware of global issues facing the world today. In other words, we need to know what the problems are in the world so we can start working on the solutions. ASPIRATIONs 7. Think critically about complex issues and evaluate possible solutions. In other words, once we understand how the world works, and where it came from, we can talk about how to fix it. ASPIRATIONs 8. Discover the intrinsic value of each learning opportunity. In other words, we need to understand why this is important to us. ASPIRATIONs 9. Take ownership of their own future. I cant do it for you, and you cant do it for me. The only person you are responsible for is you. ASPIRATIONs 10. Network and collaborate with others in productive and creative ways. In other words, you dont have to do it alone. Were all working toward success! ASPIRATIONs What are your aspirations for. This class? This school year? Your life?
