It is hard to believe that Fall is already upon us! This summer has been marked by progress and major milestones at Ward Village. Construction at Waiea is

well underway and we successfully entered into a 35 year lease with the State of Hawaii to manage and improve Honolulu’s Kewalo Basin Harbor.

In the fall, we introduced “Courtyard Club”, a series of exclusive events for Ward Village owners and their guests. Our owners attend to enjoy live music, pupus and

cocktails on the Courtyard lanai. The Courtyard Club is a terrific opportunity to meet neighbors and share your new and growing community with friends and family. Each month we will have something unique and special for you to enjoy.

Ward Village is excited to have signed a 35-year lease with the State of Hawaii to improve the Kewalo Basin Harbor. To mark this occasion and the basin’s exciting future, we hosted a community celebration on August 1. And it truly was a community event, with guests ranging from Ward Village owners and tenants to

Honolulu County Development Association staff, the public, and operators who use the harbor. Youth from KUPU (a local organization that trains the next generation in natural resource management and energy conservation) and Life 360 helped out by cooking delicious food and staffing the event, and a band crooned to

'ukulele strums with the ocean as a backdrop. Local surfers joined in on the party, welcomed by event-goers. We even had a great raw bar in the hull of an old dinghy! The relaxing, laid-back evening was a promising kickoff for what is to come—a more accessible and safer area for everyone to use and enjoy.

BREAKING & BLESSING

This momentous morning gathering on June 7 marked the groundbreaking of Waiea Tower, with a traditional Hawaiian blessing of the tower's future location and a ceremonial groundbreaking with o‘o created by youth at KUPU, a local nonprofit that trains the next generation in

natural resource management and energy conservation who Ward Village has worked closely on many projects. Community leaders and members, Howard Hughes Corporation staff, cultural descendants of the area, and Ward Village owners and supporters attended the event, and each received a native

Hawaiian plant as a tribute to Waiea’s translation, “Water of Life.” Waiea is the flagship building of the Ward Village urban neighborhood, featuring 36 floors, an unparalleled glass façade, and designed to be a world-class model of environmental sustainability for Hawaii.

In September, the Ward Village owner’s Courtyard Club kicked off with a stunning Ossipoff-designed architectural backdrop, a tinkle of ice in martini glasses, and the hum of good conversation mingling with live music. These gatherings have been a hit with owners who get the chance to meet future neighbors and

introduce the Ward Village lifestyle to a few lucky guests as well. This past year, Courtyard Club attendees have enjoyed many special events, including a showcase by Native Hawaiian artists, live slack key guitar music, a Miele demonstration, a polo event at Waimanalo Field, a special holiday party with The Howard Hughes

Some of Hawaii’s top chefs came to the future site of Waiea for this owners’ event following the day’s momentous groundbreaking. The event on June 7 celebrated culinary artists behind restaurants including Morimoto's, Merriman's, MW Restaurant, as well as the kickoff of Waiea’s construction. Master sommeliers Roberto Viernes and Chuck Furuya mingled with Ward Village owners and guests, who admired a 10-foot sand sculpture of Waiea created by a world-champion artist, which provided a beach-inspired visual of the future. The evening’s serenade was performed by DeShannon Higa’s Big Band. The food was outstanding, as was the company, and the excitement about the groundbreaking for the first residences at Ward Village was electric.

SHOP ART & FLEA AT WARD VILLAGEBustling urban market Art & Flea provides visitors with independent goods and fashion, great music, and tasty treats on the last Thursday of every month. This monthly event is held behind Marukai Market, with two stories of pop-up vendors and food trucks and activities outside. Art & Flea has also put down roots with a brick-and-mortar store at Ward Village. Be sure to stop by the new location, or go all out at the monthly themed Art & Flea market!

RELISH THE CALM WATERS AT ALA MOANA BEACH PARKWant to take advantage of the calm water just outside your future front door? HNL Surf offers stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) lessons at Ala Moana Beach Park, a great way to enjoy the ocean and work out your core. Ala Moana Beach is protected by a natural outer reef, which is what makes the water so calm and perfect for the sport, not to mention your view of the sunset while paddling just offshore.

TREAT YOURSELF TO WAIOLA SHAVE ICECool off from the sun with Waiola Shave Ice at Ward Village. Previously only located in Kapahulu and Mo‘ili‘ili, the store just opened its third location in Ward Village. Waiola Shave Ice has been around since the ’80s, and still regularly earns the highly contested title of best shave ice in Hawai‘i with its homemade syrups, azuki beans, custard pudding, mochi balls, and finely powdered ice.

MEMORY LANE WITH HANA HOU PICTURE SHOWSMeaning “one more time” or “encore” in Hawaiian, “hana hou” is the perfect saying for this series of monthly showings at Consolidated Theatres: Ward Cinema. The Hana Hou Picture Show brings classic films and cult favorites like The Shining and The Breakfast Club back to the big screen for viewers to enjoy. Life is what you make of it, and what you surround yourself with is an intrinsic part of this picture. Believing in the philosophy of “living as art,” Waiea at Ward Village’s interior designer Tony Ingrao defines his spaces as such. A busy and talented man who was recently recognized as one of Architectural Digest’s AD100 architects and designers in 2014, Ingrao tackles projects

that inspire him, from gardens and galleries to a palace in Saudi Arabia to the living spaces of Waiea.

For Waiea, it was important to incorporate design that supported a life lived with ease. “We chose sophisticated yet uncomplicated materials to further enhance the sense of space and

appreciation of the Hawaiian environment,” says Ingrao about the design aesthetic he came up with to complement renowned Canadian architect James Cheng’s iconic Waiea façade. From

sleek marbled bathroom walls to the clean, effortless lines of the kitchen and living spaces, Ingrao’s design intertwines with the architecture and island view effortlessly.

“The outdoor spaces have a very clean aesthetic because the architecture is so strong, we didn’t want to compete with it. We kept things elegant and streamlined,” he says for areas such

as pools and the amenities level. For the penthouse, he stepped it up yet another notch: “The material options are world-class, with no expense spared. Every detail was geared toward

luxury, yet ultimately, very subtle.”

With over 30 years of experience, Ingrao has pinpointed the particulars of eclectic luxury with ease. In Waiea, Ingrao frames an artful life for residents through materials and elegant

tranquility. We can’t wait to see what he creates next.
