Care Developments

www.dwa-architects.co.uk@DWAArchitects

Quality is an essential component which runs through every development we are involved with at DWA Architects.

We work with award winning contractors with proven track records of delivering superior services and we continuously compare leading sub-contractual services to ensure the best possible products, at excellent value, are specified on each project, resulting in an outstanding development, inside and out.

This dedication to excellence can be seen throughout the extensive variety of care sector developments we have designed, in which we have consistently upheld a stringent attention to detail, whilst remaining true to the needs of the end user.

Our experience covers the design of developments for a broad spectrum of care requirements including:

During September 2013, the combined efforts of York based DWA Architects Ltd and our Beijing-based partner TLD Design Consulting won an international master plan design competition for a new Elderly Person Care Village Project in Foshan, Guangzhou in China. The project is designed to accommodate 750 Senior People with severe and terminal care needs and 450 independent and assisted living specialist apartments.

Essential to winning the competition was the demonstration of our understanding of specialist operationally efficient architectural design, specifically to meet the cultural and wide ranging operational care needs of the resident and client. Vital to the success of the master plan is the involvement of TLD Design Consulting and their full-time Chinese presence in helping to steer these adaptive strategies and localised service expertise.

The project has been brought together through an inventive collaboration between local government and a local Chinese charitable foundation. Their express intent is to influence the senior care market by evidencing that, through public philanthropic business partnerships, it is possible to deliver and operate high quality specialised care that is affordable to the incomes of the local populations.

The local government will provide the land and the charitable foundation will pay for and build the Care Village, including the Assisted and Independent Living components of the project with the goal that operating the care facilities and delivery program will be self-sustaining. The stakeholder especially want to provide specialist dementia care, something many privately invested residential care operations in China rarely wish to undertake.

and Rooftop Terrace Completed: 2013

The architectural form of Dean Wood Care Home has been carefully balanced to take into account the contextual environment of the site, the comments of the planning officers and also the client’s requirements which led to the a building which embraces a for and style which is contemporary.

The roof terrace is lined by box hedging with an external glazed safety balustrade to soften the connection with the new built fabric and the landscape the development overlooks.

The decision to design the building with a flat roof is based on the desire to reduce the mass of the building, adding additional levels of secure outdoor amenity space for residents maximising the views of the South Downs and the ocean and to add a fresh, forward looking aesthetic of the building.
