Hi all! Well another month done and dusted! Where is this year going? I can't believe the woolie bear that is al-ready roaming my paddock, good bye shiny silky coat! Time to start thinking about pulling out the win-ter warmers! First up congratulations to both teams who competed at Top Teams Horse Trials, both teams did so well and I am looking forward to hearing how the event went over all! It was run very well last year and I'm sure it would not have disappointed this year! Not long now until entrees close for our dressage competition clinic, it is being held on 10th and 11th May at the Australian Sporting Equine Academy. It will be a fantastic day to scrub up on competition re-sults and find out where to score those extra points. I think it is a great idea and a fun day out! Good luck to everyone that has been and is heading out competing in the near future, I am hearing some great reports and results! Keep them coming through, it is great to hear how well everyone is doing! Until next rally, take care and happy riding! Teagen

Wandin Park Bring It Home – 3rd Place Wandin Park Home Run – 6th Place
What a fantastic result for the club to have both our teams finish in the top ten for the state out of 104 teams competing. Apart from Trish who had to scratch as Eric was sore a very disappointing result for her, all our mem-bers placed in their sections, a great effort all round. Wandin Park Bring It Home consisted of: Nicole Gilbert – 3rd place in Lvl 3 Julie Hanssen – 1st place in Lvl 4 Serryn Tacey – 3rd place in Lvl 4 Wandin Park Home Run Gill Curry – 2nd place in Lvl 5 Jenny Jackson – 3rd place in Lvl 3 Bay Fildes – 4th place in Lvl 3 The weather was great for riding although a tad windy as usual for Bulla, hence a few red faces at the end of the weekend but lots of smiles. Bulla have hosted the last 2 events so people were quietly hopeful they would not get another win this year so that we could head off to a new venue next year. Bulla fielded 6 teams though so it was not looking good but Phoenix came to the rescue and pipped them at the post for a great win, so the event will perhaps be back in the valley next year. The XC course had 4 new jumps for each level this year, some of them causing trouble for both horse & rider. As usual the water jump can be an issue for many and this year was no exception with an urgent call going out for a more experienced judge to be placed there as things were getting a little out of control at one stage. The new Sharks Tooth jump had many riders spooked whilst walking the course and caused many a stop and quite a few eliminations. Not so the Wandin riders though who all had clear rounds. Both Gill and Nic dropped a rail on that dreaded last show jump (Dougie’s favourite trick for many a comp) to drop them down a placing but came away still very happy with their result. I had my first experience of camping out in the float, whilst somewhat dubious as to how this was go-ing to pan out for me I actually coped quite well, not much sleep the first night but probably nerves more so than the sleeping arrangements. Sebastian has a lot to learn about camping out at comps though, whilst his behaviour during the comp was exemplary his campsite behaviour was atrocious and at one stage the hammer I was holding at the time was looking a very good solution to the prob-lem!! Sebastian ran straight through his electric tape yard to reach his bf Tremayne then whilst tied to the float so I could put it back together he stomped and kicked out continuously all the time calling out at the top of his voice. My float now has 2 dents in the tack box door, thank you Seb. Nic sorted him out when she got back though, hiding behind the float with a dressage whip and each time he tried to kick the float he copped it, the look on his face was classic, he had no idea what was going on, I had to laugh. After 2 more attempts with the same result he stood still until his yard was completed, have-n’t come up with a solution for the calling out yet but good old duct tape is looking good!! Has anyone tried it? One of the Bulla riders (Ricky Bannister) had a nasty fall the week before the comp and broke his back. Bulla was raising money for him and his young family on the weekend and had a pleasing $6000 by the end of Sunday, a great effort all round. If any members would like to contribute to Ricky’s fund you can do so via the Bulla website, any donations will be gratefully received as he is going to be out of action for some time with his final prognosis unsure at this time. Nothing better than a weekend away with horses & friends and a couple of drinks around the camp-fire. Thanks everyone. Julie
