Wanda & Scott Salverda Memorial Scholarship www.wandaandscottmemorial.ca Scholarship Criteria (2015) Eligibility requirements: 1) The scholarship is open to any student who is enrolled in Haldimand/Norfolk secondary schools. 2) The student must have attended the same school for three years. (Special consideration will be given to former PDCS students for this requirement. Former PDCS students should consult the guidance counselor of the school they now attend.) 3) The candidate for the scholarship must be pursuing a post secondary education in a school in the current year of graduation or after completing a fifth year of secondary school. Value of the scholarship; The maximum value of the scholarship is $10 000.00. This amount will be paid out depending on the length of the successful candidate’s post-secondary program: 4-year program - $2 500 per year for 4 years 3-year program - $3 300 per year for 2 years & $3 400 in the third year 2-year program - $5 000 per year for 2 years The funds will be paid on behalf of the award winner directly to the post-secondary institution based on invoices submitted by the successful candidate. Only invoice amounts will be paid. Only invoices billing for tuition, room & board and books are acceptable.

The maximum value of the scholarship is $10 000.00. This amount will be paid out depending on the length of the successful candidates post-secondary program:

4-year program - $2 500 per year for 4 years

3-year program - $3 300 per year for 2 years & $3 400 in the third year

2-year program - $5 000 per year for 2 years

The funds will be paid on behalf of the award winner directly to the post-secondary institution based on invoices submitted by the successful candidate. Only invoice amounts will be paid. Only invoices billing for tuition, room & board and books are acceptable.The successful candidate must attend a meeting with the treasurer of the committee to set-up and agree to the terms of the payment plan.

All candidates not selected will receive $500 payable to their post-secondary institution.Selection of Candidate;

1) Each of the nine schools (through their respective awards committees) will select one candidate and recommend such candidate to the Salverda selection committee.

2) The selection committee will have the student provide their secondary school transcript (as of end of semester one, 2015) and two (2) letters of recommendation, one from an administrator and one from a teacher of the school.3) The student must also complete a two page double-spaced essay speaking to the criteria as listed below. The candidate must submit a resume including name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.4) The selection committee will interview each candidate and will select the successful individual. (The time and location of the interviews will be determined by the selection committee at a later date and forwarded to candidates.)

Criteria;

1) The candidate must be active in school.

2) The candidate must be pursuing a post secondary education in the September of the year they graduate. The candidate must have graduated from their secondary school in either February or June of 2015 or have returned to complete a fifth year as of June 2015.3) The candidate should demonstrate the financial need for this scholarship.4) The candidate must be active in the community.5) The candidate must exemplify a solid work ethic in their everyday lives.

6) The successful candidate must be willing to volunteer in the 9th annual Wanda & Scott Memorial golf tournament in 2016.

Time Lines;

1) The schools must recommend their candidate, and have submitted all requested materials to the selection committee chair, by 4:00 PM, Friday, May 22, 2015.

2) The successful candidate will be announced prior to the golf tournament on Friday, June 19, 2015 and will be invited along with parents/guardians to the tournament dinner for scholarship presentation. The dinner for the successful candidate and his/her parents will be complimentary.3) All other candidates will be invited, along with their parents, to the presentation dinner. The candidates meal will be complimentary with a $30 charge for the meal(s) of accompanying parents.

NOTE: The criteria for selection is not based on gender or geography.
