“Beneath the Weight” on Wednesdays,
Nov.2, 9, and 16, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
The workshops are free and open to the
public.
There are no lectures, no diets, and no
exercises. The presenter is SelfCare
Health Initiatives, an all-volunteer non
-profit organization.

ELECTION DAY INFO
The Nov. 8 primary ballot includes
presidential, congressional, judicial
and school board races. There are also
6 proposed constitutional amend-
ments.
In addition there is a proposition
that would allow for the perma-
nent separation of the Independ-
ent Police Monitor from the Office
of Inspector General.
For a sample ballot, go to geaux-
vote.com. Vote early at the Algiers
Courthouse Oct. 25 - Nov. 1 (except
Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. .
Early voting is Nov. 26 through
Dec. 3 for the Dec. 10 General
Election.
WBCA Recognizes Officers of the Month
Each month one of the associations in the Algiers Neighborhood
Presidents Council provides a $50 gift card to the Officer of the
Month at the monthly Algiers Police Advisory Committee
(APAC) meeting.
Bob and Lisa Baldwin Wilson presented the $50 gift card to Of-
ficer Tomeka Anderson on behalf of the Walnut Bend Civic
Association at the August meeting. Another $50 gift card was
presented to co-Officer of the month Cory Lauer by APAC. Com-
mander Ceasar Ruffin is also pictured with the officers.

Valencia Sarpy Jones of Cloutier-
ville, daughter of Walnut Bend
board member Millie Sarpy, was
appointed by Gov. John Bel Ed-
wards to the LSU Board of Supervi-
sors. Jones is Edwards' fourth ap-
pointment to the board with con-
trolling authority over the LSU sys-
tem.
Valencia is a financial services pro-
fessional with New York Life Insur-
ance Company & NYLIFE Securi-
ties. She holds a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Sociology from Louisiana
State University
and Agricultural
and Mechanical
College. She will
serve as a repre-
sentative of the
4th Congres-
sional District.
