    General Information

This equipment operates at voltage levels that are potentially lethal. Do nottouch any of the internal parts of the equipment unless you are fully awareof the hazards involved and the precautions to be taken.

It is imperative to provide an adequate earth conductor for the rack andload connections. Do not rely on earthing via conduit or trunking.

The equipment described in this manual is designed and manufactured to complywith international safety standards IEC 950 and is intended for use as part of alighting control system. It must not be used for other purposes where there is any

risk of safety to persons. It is important that installation be carried out inaccordance with the instructions given in this manual and in compliance withapplicable electrical regulations. The work should be carried out by a suitablyqualified electrician.

The system is designed to be permanently installed with supply and load wiringpermanently connected.

In the interests of continued safe and reliable operation, observe the followingguidelines:

x Keep the equipment at a room temperature of 0-35qC and a relative humidity

of 10-95% (non-condensing) during operation. For operation between 35qC and

40qC de-rate the maximum load by 4% perqC.

Do not, under any circumstances, operate the equipment above 40qC or in anenvironment that may become wet.

x Avoid sudden extremes of temperature, rain, direct sunlight, or other heatsources.

x Make sure that wires and cables are routed sensibly and wired in

    accordance with local regulations.

x DO NOT drop the equipment or subject it to excessive bumping or jarring.

x DO protect the unit from excessive dust or other contamination.

InstallationDimmer s ystems contain potentially hazardous voltages and high temperatures.Installation should only be carried out by suitably qualified personnel, safe working

practices observed, and caution exercised at all times. Ensure that all Power suppliesare properly isolated before gaining access.

Location Anydimmer installation requires careful choiceof location. Dimmersshould, if possible, besitedclose to the lamp loads to minimise cable

runs. Although thedesign ofWallrack reduces the radiatednoisecommon toconventional dimmers, it is important to avoidsiting inacoustically 'live' positions in the performancearea.

The incoming mains distribution shouldbesitedas close to theracks aspracticable, and adequatelyfused isolators provided close to each rack.Max rating 80A-3 phase, 160A-single phase(Wallrack 24x2.5kW).

Allowadequate clearance atthe front of thedimmer rack, inorder for it tobeopenedfor wiring to the load, supply and control terminals and allowsafeservicingof the equipment.

    Ventilation

Adequate ventilationmustbe provided to maintainanambienttemperature withinthe range 0 to35 C andhumidityof 45-95% non-condensing. Special attentionshould bepaid to theneedto maintain

ambienttemperature within these limits whenWallrack is enclosed inasmall room.

    Do notobstruct the ventilation slots.

    Installation Procedure

After unpacking the rack, remove the front panel (6 screws) and the Earthleads attached to it.

The rack(s) should be secured to the wall before installation

    Power wiring: Top

    Control wiring: Bottom

    Supply Connections

Wallrack s are equipped with terminals for Single or Three phase plus

    Neutral and Earth connections.

    24x2.5kW Wallrack 6x5kW WallrackSingle Phase: 160A Single Phase: 150AThree Phase: 80A Three Phase: 50A

For single phase, there will be an optional single phase kit. The terminals

are provided for (2.5kW dimmers are 25 mm , 5kW dimmers are 32mm )wires of the NEUTRAL and PHASE terminals.

Three PhaseConductor sizes must be chosen to comply with local regulations and areusually calculated to take into consideration cable lengths and types.

Typically, wiring for 3 PHASE LIVE conductors should be 25mm for

2.5kW dimmers and 32mm for 5kW dimmers maximum rack loadcapacity.

For theNEUTRAL conductor, we recommend a size ofatleast 2 x phaseconductor size to allow for the harmonic currents generated byphasecontrol dimmers.

    Single Phase

Typicallywiring for both LIVE L1and NEUTRAL N shouldbe25mm for

2.5kW dimmers and 32mm for5kW dimmers formaximumrack loadcapacity. For this applicationuse theSingle Phase strapping kit. If singlephasecurrent is higher than thesize of the cable, additional Live andNeutral wires are recommended to share the current flows.

    Load Connections

Connections for both LIVE and NEUTRAL are supplied ateach dimmeroutput to allowtwo loads to beconnected inparallel withouttheneed to fittwo wires ina single terminal. The terminals are locatedon thePowerBlocks. Pleaserefer to thePower Block Terminationdetails in theappendix.

Load terminals allowfor2.5kW dimmers up to 4mm2 stranded direct intotheterminals
