A week of fun was attended each morning by over 100 local children, supported by some 50 volunteers from the church. The ‘quest’ was to help the king and queen, two regal puppets, find the light that had gone from their castle leaving it so gloomy. Colin Voice, Children’s and Family Worker, explained: “Each day Telzar our time traveller, played by Sophie Armitage, discovered a new clue like, we should ‘Obey His Word’ which gradually brought light back into the castle and helped the children find the source of light for their own lives too. “Every day the children heard a story of a king from the Bible which taught the truth of the clues found. The week concluded with a family celebration service on the Sunday with the whole church, full of life, light and colour as we proclaimed Jesus as King of Kings and light of the world! “The week was full of fun activities with puppets, crafts, songs and messy games, leaving the children with great expectations for next year”. Fun Day starts community centre project A ‘FUN DAY’ for the Telford Park community was a hit in more ways than one ,when the Weir Link community project got under way on Saturday 15 September. The project, backed by St Thomas with St Stephen, Telford Park, in partnership with local residents, is to open a community centre on the site of a hall, which has been derelict for 34 years. It has funding to be a Children’s Centre, and will open in March 2008. The ‘Fun Day’ brought the whole community together, from young children enjoying the bouncy castle, circus skills and face painting, to boys playing football and table tennis, to the elderly enjoying the steel band whilst eating an ice cream or literally dancing in the street! At the height of the fun, the demolition of the Weir Hall was formally started by Keith Hill MP the Rev. Simon Gates (Chair of The Weir Link charity), the Mayor of Lambeth and Syd Bishop (from the demolition Company) taking several good swipes at the building with a sledgehammer! The Buy A Brick Campaign (£5 a brick) was launched with the Mayor and Keith Hill as the first customers! Weir Link Project Trustee, Claire Rennie, said “We want to encourage as many people as possible to Buy A Brick - including readers of The Bridge - together we really can make a difference to the life of this community.” Face painting was a hit at the Fun Day PHOTOS BY STEPHEN CRAWLEY www.churchhosting.co.uk email: [email protected] phone: 0870 9220094 First Impressions Count!
