The last couple of “hot” days reminded us that summer is here! Our cool days had me off track thinking of back to school shopping and football practice. I am happy to be back in the mind set of summer. Our residents gardens are in bloom with tomatoes and other garden favorites growing. We are having fun seeing who might grow the biggest tomato plant!

Swap Table

As addressed at past Town Hall meetings and in a memo to residents at Watkins, we chose to discontinue the swap table. There were various reasons for this decision. Ensuring safety of items on the table and the amount of time it took to monitor, clean up and dispose of unwanted items were the biggest concerns. We had some great discussion during July’s Town Hall meeting and we developed a great solution. This September, we will have our first swap event for residents. Residents will have the opportunity to set out items they want to give away as well as shop for free at other residents tables. All residents are invited to participate and do not have to donate to shop. Any leftover items will be boxed up and donated to Volunteer Services. It’s a good time to clean out your closet.

Town Hall Meetings

I would love to see a record attendance at our Town Hall meeting for August. These meetings are great opportunities to learn about upcoming events, offer suggestions, etc. I will have a treat at August’s Town Hall meeting for those who attend! Our next Town Hall meeting at Watkins is Wednesday August 20th from 10-11am.

Congratulations Marjorie L. Our July Exercise Winner !

This summer we introduce a change in our senior leadership for Winona Senior Services departments. Mary Miller-Hyland is planning for retirement by the end of September. She has transitioned solely to overseeing the administrator transition for Lake Winona Manor and Robin Hoeg has stepped in to lead our Senior Services areas. This includes Lake Winona Manor, Assisted Living, Home Care, Hospice, and Palliative Care. She is currently the Service Line Leader for Inpatient Services and will be a wonderful leader for us. A past Director of Home Care and Hospice, she has a passion for seniors and a commitment to ensure great outcomes for care. We thank Mary for her hard work and wish her well in her retirement.

Thank you for choosing Winona Health assisted living! We are blessed to have you with us.

Resident Life:

Left: Ian Schapinski, Classical Pianist from Austin, MN performed at Watkins in June.

Right: It’s our summer pontoon season again. Margaret, Curtis and Anita setting off to sail!

Left: Some of our gentlemen, Dale, Joe, Syd., enjoying the summer picnic. Due to the weather, this year it was held it indoors.

Right: Curtis, Anita and Marlene on the Pontoon ride, it was a beautiful day.

Left: North Star Boys Choir from (ages 8-12) from Maple Grove MN. They performed at Central Lutheran Church the night before and wanted to share their talents with others in Winona… we were very fortunate that they chose Senior Living at Watkins. They were very impressed with the Manor House and Great Hall.

Right: The Clown Club is always a joyful sight to see. Pictures from our Summer Family picnic.

Left: Sandra, Harriet, Arlene, Bernette, and Jinny out for lunch at Culvers! The food was great and the custard was even better!

AMM/RMM Memory Care Residents

Our residents have enjoyed the beautiful nice weather days we’ve had this summer.

We’ve been able to have some of our activities outside.
