The collaborative, respectful, passionate leadership team that worked tirelessly on this submission are a credit to themselves and your leadership, congratulations to each of you. We were already in awe of what we had read in the submission that was amplified as we had the pleasure of walking around the school and visiting classes, talking with staff and students and hearing more about Wakehurst Public School. Please commend the entire school community for their combined, continued efforts to strive for excellence. It is a school that we would have both been honoured to send our own children to.

Dance Extravaganza We were so excited today to be able to showcase our talents and skills as dancers. The theme of our 2018 Dance Extravaganza was ‘Friendship’ and our talented students embraced this theme by dancing with enthusiasm. Thank you to our Dance2BFit instructors and teachers for all working hard to bring the routines together, and our Year 5 and Dance Sport teachers for showcasing the Tango and Cha Cha. The morning was an excellent showcase of the talents of everyone here at Wakehurst, and we also extend our thanks to the Wakehurst community for coming along to support our dancers and helping with costuming.

Teacher Professional Learning This term our teachers have engaged in professional learning across three key areas which are: Positive Behaviour for Learning, Focus on Reading and online learning to support mathematics through Building Blocks for Numeracy. Additionally, four of our teachers participated in Quality Teaching Rounds along with teachers across our community of schools. On Monday we celebrated their dedication to this process by sharing how this program has helped to improve their practice in the classroom. Congratulations to Mrs Ducker, Ms Fox, Mrs Packman and Mr Patterson pictured below with The Forest Network Director of Educational Leadership, Mrs Sally Egan. The teachers used words such as inspiring and motivating to describe their involvement in this program.

Kindergarten 2019 Enrolments Kindergarten 2019 enrolments are now due, so if you haven’t as yet enrolled your child we would appreciate it if you could please do so prior to the end of the term. We are looking forward to welcoming our Kindergarten 2019 students to Wakehurst PS at our transition mornings on November 8, 15 and 22. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information regarding the enrolment process. Enrolment forms can be downloaded from our website or obtained from the school office.

This term, our school is participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 21 August and 13 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated and assist us to plan for the future. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/4qxq9 Planning for 2019 Early next term we commence planning our classes for 2019. To assist in this process, it is most helpful if we have accurate student numbers. If your child will not be returning to Wakehurst Public School in 2018, please send written advice of this to me as soon as possible. Also if you know of any families or Kindergarten 2019 students who are yet to enrol we would appreciate your support in helping us by asking parents to enrol as soon as possible. If you have particular information related to your child’s 2019 placement of which you feel we need to be aware, please put this in writing via a note to the office or email prior to Friday 9 November. It is also important that the information is received in writing and directed to me rather than through discussion with your child's teacher. Enjoy and safe and restful spring break with your family. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 4 on Monday 15 October. Kind regards Caroline Desmond Principal

Sports Update Sydney North Athletics Carnival Congratulations to our school representatives who competed last week in the Sydney North Athletics Carnival at Homebush. We had 10 students representing our school in a variety of sprint, long distance and field events. It was great to see them compete with such enthusiasm across all of their events. Special mention must be made of Jack S (Year 5) who qualified for the 10 years Boys 100m final and came 7th. Thank you to all of the parents who transported students to and from the event. Below are some photos of some of our competitors as they came through the marshalling area last week.

Choir

Our Choir, made up of members from Years 4-6, participated in the Arts Alive Choral Concert last Thursday evening at the Syndey Opera House. They have worked tirelessly all year to learn the music and lyrics to over 10 complicated songs, and then be able to become part of a massed choir of over 700 children and sing in the same harmony. Every student was so well behaved as always and noted by the convenors. It was such a wonderul day and we were very proud of them all. Thank you parents for supporting the details and change of arrangements to your usual day, we really appreciated it. Jane Packman, Kate Smith and Laura Ducker

Fill a handbag with a Christmas gift for women and girls in need

You have the power to make life better for a woman or girl experiencing homelessness or poverty, women at risk or women experiencing domestic violence, through Share The Dignity’s ‘It’s In The Bag’ Christmas charity campaign

It’s simple. First of all, choose a handbag in good condition that you no longer use. Then, fill it with items that would make a woman feel special, pop in a thoughtful note or Christmas card and show her someone cares. Often women in crisis will put the needs of others before themselves, whatever the time of year. We want to do something that will give these women a little happiness at Christmas.

Next time you are at the shops, collect a few items for your Christmas handbag. No matter how you celebrate Christmas with your family, this will be the most meaningful and appreciated gift you give this year. What to put in:

Your handbag can be packed full of useful things and little luxuries. Especially relevant items are those little things you need every day, from your toothbrush to your hairbrush. Other items can include toothpaste, shampoo, sanitary items, perfume, gift cards, a pair of socks, a magazine, lipstick, a scarf, tissues, nail polish and small items of jewellery. Please do not include scissors, food or alcohol.

There are 85,000 homeless women who need your help this Christmas. Many have fled domestic violence or experienced extreme poverty. We want to make them feel special. You can help. It’s simple and it makes a big difference in a woman’s life.

Handbags that are donated are distributed through Share The Dignity’s partner shelters and charitable organisations. Our partner charities give them to homeless, at-risk and women experiencing domestic violence. Due to the high demand at Christmas we need your help.

If you would like to donate a filled handbag, could you please deliver to Mrs Docker, or leave at the 6WD classroom or the school office, no later than Friday 16 November.

Many Thanks.
