THIS IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Barack
Obama’s relationship has been frosty over reports that the
NSA tapped her phone.
White House Watch
The President’s Schedule At
9:55 AM, President Obama will
meet with German Chancellor
Angela Merkel in the Oval
Office. According to the White
House, Obama and Merkel are set
to discuss “promoting economic
growth, supporting the
Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership,
cooperating within NATO,
supporting democracy in
Europe’s east, and meeting
shared security and economic challenges around the globe.” Also expect talk
of NSA surveillance, a sore spot between the President and Chancellor –
which led the latter to cancel her last visit to Washington. Vice President
Biden will also be in the Oval Office meeting.
At 11:40, the President and Chancellor will hold a joint press conference in
the Rose Garden.
At 12:45 PM, the two will hold a working lunch, along with the Official
U.S. and German Delegations (including Biden) in the White House Cabinet
Room.
To end the day, at 3:50 PM, President Obama will sit down to talk about
immigration reform with business and faith leaders from the Asian
American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) community in the Roosevelt Room.
The month of May is AAPI Heritage Month.
Jobs Report to Be Released Last month’s job report from the Bureau of
Labor Statistics at the Labor Department, always a proven meter to show if
the economy is recovering and a factor in the upcoming midterm campaign,
will be released at 8:00am this morning.

“Morning Joe” Scarborough to New Hampshire Former Republican
congressman and co-host of the popular MSNBC show “Morning Joe” heads
to Cheshire County, Hampshire today to keynote the county GOP’s Lincoln
Day Dinner.
This will be Scarborough’s second visit to the first-in-the-nation primary in
two months, brewing speculation of a potential presidential run, which the
TV host has shot down.
MSNBC came under fire for allowing Scarborough to headline the GOP
fundraising event, despite barring another MSNBC host, liberal firebrand Ed
Schultz from speaking at a local Florida Democratic committee event in
March. The network claims that Scarborough’s event in the Granite State
today is not a “political fundraiser”.
Since 2007, Scarborough has co-hosted “Morning Joe,” and previously
served six years representing Florida’s 1st district as a Republican in the U.S.
House.

United States and a “roast” from a comedian. This year’s dinner celebrates
the 100th anniversary of the White House Correspondents’ Association.
On Saturday, a roast of the President, his Administration, and other capital
figures will be offered by actor/comedian Joel McHale, star of the NBC
series Community and host of E!’s The Soup.
