MINNESOTASUMMARY OF STATE RULES FOR 2011

EXHIBITIONS

General requireMents: Livestock and poultry that exhibit symptoms of any infectious or communicable disease, including ringworm and warts, may not be exhibited. All animals must be examined by the official veterinarian on the day they are admitted to the exhibition and at least once daily during the exhibition. All animals imported into Minnesota for exhibition must be accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection and satisfy the Board of Animal

Health importation requirements.

Cattle: Cattle originating from Minnesota’s Ma zoneAnimal movement certificate. All cattle that are moved from the MA zone to exhibition must be accompanied by an animal movement certificate approved by the Board.Whole herd test. All cattle originating from Minnesota’s MA zone must originate from a herd that has had a whole-herd tuberculosis test within 12 months of exhibition.Individual animal tests. With the exception of items (1) and (2), each animal for exhibition must be negative to an official tuberculosis test conducted within 60 days prior to being moved for exhibition purposes. 1. animals that originate directly from an tuberculosis accredited herd 2. animals less than two months of age

For Minnesota State Fair tuberculosis testing requirements, call 651-288-4417 or visit www.mnstatefair.org.

sWine: Swine must be individually identified and must: (1) have had a negative official pseudorabies test conducted within 30 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or (2) originate directly from a qualified pseudorabies-negative herd; or (3) originate directly from a Stage IV or V county or area. As of January 15, 2009, all 50 states are currently pseudorabies Stage V (Pseudorabies Free Status).

Note: Always check with exhibition management to make sure they have not imposed any restrictions or additional requirements on the exhibition of Minnesota goats, particularly those which originate from the MA zone. For Minnesota State Fair tuberculosis testing requirements, call 651-288-4417 or visit www.mnstatefair.org.

hOrses: All horses must be negative to an official test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within 12 months prior to the opening date of the exhibition. A test is not required for suckling foals accompanying a negative dam.

POultry: Poultry, with the except of pigeons and waterfowl, must be individually identified with a leg or wing band and must: (1) have had a negative test for pullorum-typhoid disease conducted within 90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition; or (2) if under five (5) months of age, originate directly from parent stock tested and found negative for pullorum-typhoid disease within the last 12 months. In addition, turkeys must be tested negative or originate directly from parent stock that is tested negative for Salmonella typhimurium, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and Mycoplasma synoviae. Poultry must be accompanied by a testing or origination certificate approved by the Board.

nOte: sWine & POultry slauGhter Classes: All swine, and poultry entered in the class which are kept isolated in a separate building from all other livestock and poultry at the exhibition and which are slaughtered during or immediately following the exhibition, do not require tests or individual identification.

DOGs: Dogs over six months of age must be accompanied by a certificate of rabies vaccination issued by a licensed veterinarian.

Entry Rules & Regulations1. Entries in Cattle and Sheep departments must be in the hands

of the Secretary by 10 p.m., Wednesday, July 28. Livestock to remain

on grounds until Sunday, Aug. 1.2. Entries in Home & Hobbies building must be in by Wednesday,

July 28 at 5 p.m. Articles must be in place for judging by 5 p.m. of that day. Judging will be on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

3. Entries in Flower department must be in by 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 28.

4. All articles entered are to remain on exhibition until 11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 1. The society will not be responsible for loss or damage, every precaution will be taken.

5. No animal or articles unworthy of premium shall receive one even though there be no competition nor shall any animal or article receive a higher premium than its merit demand.

6. No changes or alterations will be permitted after the books are placed in the hands of the judges; all persons making entries must be sure that the article or animal is placed in the appropriate class, or it will be the duty of the judges to rule out any article or animal not answering to the entry.

7. Exhibitors or stock will be required to keep the stalls open and stock uncovered from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during each day of the exhibition. Exhibitors must keep stalls clean and neat during the fair.

8. Any person attempting to interfere with the awarding committee during the adjudication, shall forfeit the premium he or she might otherwise be entitled to in that division.

9. No article or animals shall compete for more than one cash premium, except as part of a collection or herd, as for a sweepstake premium.

10. All protests and appeals from the decision of the awarding committee must be in writing to the secretary before the close of the fair. Final decisions on protests will be made by the Board of Directors.

11. The base date for computing age of all entries in the dairy breeds shall be September 1st and March 1st.

1. ONLY shavings can be used for bedding. Shavings will be available on grounds.2. Negative Coggins tests are mandatory, sleeping sickness, tetanus, influenza and strangles vaccines are

highly recommended.3. Horse must be kept clean.4. Halter should be hung on outside of stall. (Use old, cheap halter) No halters left on in stall.5. Trophies awarded for overall high point rider (regardless of number of horses shown) in each age

division.6. Buckets must be chest high.7. Manure must be picked out at all times. Barns must be cleaned before 10 a.m. every day. Stalls must be

cleaned out and freshly bedded by that time. Shavings must be used. It is expected that all exhibitors help keep the barn and surrounding areas clean at all times.

8. Horses must be exercised every day. 9. There will be no water fights allowed on the fairgrounds.10. No hay nets may be left in the stalls overnight. Canvas bags are acceptable.11. Do not share water buckets or grooming tools with others.12. Safety Rules: –No racing –No riding in the barn –All horses must be led in the barn and surrounding area –Maintain a safe distance between horses –Boots with heels are required; no tennis shoes

–No horses allowed out south end of barn and horses exercised in arena area ONLY; not allowed in any other part of the Fair Grounds except during Pet Parade.

–4- H Exhibitor - When riding helmets must be worn.13. You must provide your own hay, shavings, grain, and all equipment for cleaning purposes. Please label

your equipment.14. Stall decorations must not interfere with ventilation or view of the animal. This will be determined by the

barn supervisor. No nails, screws or staples can be used on lower stall fronts. All stall decorations must be removed at the end of the fair.

15. Each horse will be inspected for symptoms of infectious or communicable diseases. No lame horses will be allowed.

16. Horses must be stalled at all times other than entering or exiting the barn.17. Horses must be uncovered during fair hours except show days.18. Any animal that is sent home at the discretion of the fair vet after it has shown will not forfeit any

premiums or awards.19. Any horse known to bite or kick must be restrained or replaced. This will be decided upon and enforced

by the barn supervisor.20. No Smoking in the horse barns.21. All exhibitors must clean stalls at the end of the fair or pay an assessed cleaning fee of $10.00 per stall.22. the barn supervisor has the responsibility of enforcing all rules.

Minnesota State Livestock Sanitary Board rules and regulations will be strictly enforced by Dr. Kathy Markuson, official veterinarian, and full information may be ob-tained from her.

All livestock exhibitors must bring their own feed and bedding. All livestock ex-hibits must be in place by Wednesday, July 27 by 10 p.m.

CattleAll livestock tests and certificate costs must be borne by the exhibitor.Registration papers shall be presented for all entries on demand from superin-

tendent. Registered and grade animals judged together. Animals must be in barn by Wed., July 27 at 10 p.m.

Wadena County Fair Barn Rules•Animals must be kept clean.•4H exhibitors are responsible for feeding/caring for their animals during the

time they are at the fair. Herdsmanship award will be forfeited if others are found car-ing for the animals.

•Animals must be maintained and look presentable to the public from 10 am to 9 pm.

Condition your plant material before using in designs or entering specimens. Take a tepid (room temperature) pail of water to the garden in which to immediately place your speci-mens.
