Sierra Grapevine Pullover By Susie Bonell 

 Materials:  Cascade Yarns Sierra:  color A: 5, 5, 6 skeins, Color B: 4, 4, 5 skeins     Knitting needles size 6 & 7     Markers, yarn needle     Crochet hook size H.  Gauge: 5 st + 1” ; 6 rows = 1” in stockinette stitch (st st)  Finished Measurements:  37”, 40”, 44”  Cables: Over 6 sts Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl Row 3: C6B on right side of front panel, and C6F on left side. Row 4: Purl Row 5: Knit Row 6: Purl  C6B:  Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 3 sts from left‐handed needle, then knit sts from cable needle.  C6F:  Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in front of work, knit next 3 sts from left‐handed needle, then knit sts from cable needle.  Grapevine Pattern  NOTE: The pattern stitches are decreased on rows 1 and 7, and increased on rows 5 and 11. Row 1:  K2, *K2tog, K1, YO, K1, ssk, K2* rep between *’s, end K4. Row 2 and all even rows: Purl. Row 3:  K1, K2tog, K1, YO, *K1, YO, K1, ssk, K2tog, K1, YO* rep between *’s, end K2. Row 5:  K3, YO, *K3, YO, K1, ssk, K1, YO,* rep between *’s, end K3. Row 7:  K5, *K2tog, K1, YO, K1, ssk, K2* rep between *’s, end K2. Row 9:  K4, *K2tog, K1, (YO, K1) twice, ssk* rep between *’s, end K3. Row 11:  K3, K2tog, *K1, YO, K3, YO, K1, K2tog* rep between *’s, end K2. Row 12: Purl. Repeat rows 1‐12 for pattern.  SWEATER BACK With size 6 needles and color A cast on 88, 94, 102 sts.  Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 ½” increasing to 94, 102, 112 sts on last wrong side row.  Change to size 7 needles. Set Up Row: (Right side) Knit 12, 16, 21 sts (st st), P1 (reverse st st), work 3 sts in 1st row of cable pattern in color B, then 3 sts in color A, P1 with color B (reverse st st),  place marker, work row 1 of Grapevine pattern with color B over next 54 sts, place marker, P1 (reverse st st), attach another ball of color A and K3 for 1st half of cable as be‐fore, change to color B for last 3 of cable, P1 (reverse st st), knit remainder of row in color A. Maintaining colors and patterns as established, work until sweater measures 15”, 15 ½”, 15 ½” or desired length to armhole.  

Shape Armholes: Bind off 6, 8, 8 sts at the beg of the next two rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 5, 7, 8 times. Continue in pattern as established until armhole measures 9 ½”, 9”, 9 ½”.  Bind off all sts.  FRONT Work as for back until 5” (all sizes) above armhole.   Neck Shaping:  On right side, work across to Grapevine panel and bind off 54 sts of panel leaving P1 on each side of neck edge next to the cables. Add another ball of color A & B  for other side to work both sides at the same time.  Work to same length as back and bind off.  SLEEVES  With color A and size 6 needles cast on  42, 44, 46 sts.  Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 ½” increasing 4 sts (all sizes) on the last wrong side row. 46, 48, 50 sts.  Change to size 7 needles. Work set up row as follows:  Knit 19, 20, 21 sts with color A, P1, with color B work first 3 sts of cable (knit3), then with color A, knit 3 sts for 2nd half of cable, P1, knit to end of row.  Continue working two tone cable in center of sleeve as for sweater while increasing on each side as follows: Inc 1 st each side every 4th,  4th, 2nd row 18, 21, 2 times, then every 6th, 0, 4th row 2, 0, 21 times.   Continue in pattern until sleeve measures 17 ½”, 17 ½”, 18” or desired length to armhole.  Cap Shaping: Bind off 6, 8, 8 sts at the beg of the next 2 rows.   Dec 1 st each side every other row 5, 7, 8 times. Dec 1 st each side every row 14, 10, 10 times. Dec 1 st each side 2nd row 5, 6, 6 times. Bind off 3 sts at the beg of the next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts.  Weave in all ends.  Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves to body.  Sew underarm and side seams.  Finishing: With crochet hook work one row of single crochet evenly around neck edge.  Work one row of reverse single crochet around neck and end off.  Steam slightly if needed.  SCARF   (10 ½” x 55”) With size 7 needles and color B, cast on 48 sts. Row 1: (right side) K2, YO, K2tog, P1, place marker, work row 1 of Grapevine Pattern (38 sts), place marker, Pl, K2tog, YO, K2. Row 2:  P4, K1, slip marker, work row 2 of Grapevine Pattern, slip marker, K1, P4. Continue using rows 1 and 2 for the edging on either side of the Grapevine Pattern as established.  Work until scarf measures 55” or desired length and bind off. With right side facing, work one row of single crochet across the ends of the scarf followed by one row of reverse single crochet. Steam slightly as needed.
