Chet’s Chat
Dr. Chet Andrews Senior Pastor
It has been an interesting couple of months in February and March,
regarding weather. February was, on average, warmer than March.
And we even had a snow storm on Sunday, March 12 followed by
some of the coldest temperatures we have seen all winter.
Meteorologists who predict weather and weather patterns are never
100% accurate, no matter how advanced the science becomes.
Perhaps the best and most accurate forecast came from a comedian
who once said, “Weather forecast for tonight: dark. Continued dark
overnight, with widely scattered light by morning.”
Regardless of how accurate meteorologists may or may not be, we as
believers can depend on the consistency of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. When speaking to his disciples Jesus said in Mark 8:31, “… that
the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders,
the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed
and after three days rise again.” Jesus accurately and with great clarity
told His disciples of His death and resurrection. God’s redemptive plan
to save humanity of their sins was for Jesus to be the perfect Lamb of
God and die for our sins. Jesus would then demonstrate His great
power and love by rising again and defeating death! This is what Easter
is all about.
As we enter into April and we have our sights set on Easter Sunday
remember a few things: 1. Think and pray for those you can invite to
church who need to hear the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. Be prepared to celebrate with great joy and vigor the fact that, THE
TOMB IS EMPTY AND THE THRONE IS FULL!!
Upcoming opportunities to invest in the Kingdom and invite
others to “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8).
• Sunday, April 2 from 5-7 pm: Community Easter Egg Hunt. We will
have a FREE meal and a great time of getting to know our
neighbors with our Easter egg hunt. (Remember we still need
candy donations. Candy should be individually wrapped. Look for
the donation bins around our church campus.)
• Sunday, April 16, EASTER SUNDAY! We will have the Flowering
of the Cross at 8:30 am, followed by a light breakfast, and then
Sunday school at 9:15 am and finally we will worship together at
10:30 am!
• Saturday April 22: We will meet at 9 am at the church to have a
prayer walk for Uptown Church in Charleston, SC. We will leave no
later than 3 pm to come home.
• Sunday, April 23 after morning worship: Spaghetti Fundraising
Dinner for the Dominican Republic Mission Team.

These are used for Seafarers, Homeless, Migrants, Fair Workers, and others.
WMU members will add the other items
(soap, comb, toothbrush, and toothpaste).
Due date is April 17, 2017. Towels and washcloths may be placed in baskets
near the Welcome Center.
SHOE MNISTRY UPDATE
We have had great success following last month’s
challenge for each person to collect 25 pairs of shoes.
Thank you for your generosity! Please continue to
collect and turn in shoes, as the money raised will be
given to the Casas Por Cristo Mission trip. The more
shoes we collect, the more money that we can give
towards this mission trip.
If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate
to contact Margaret Hutson
at [email protected] or 803-794-8550
or 803-413-7233.
PRAYER WALK
On Saturday, April 22, we will travel to Charleston to pray
for the ministry of Uptown Church. We will meet at State
Street and leave for Charleston at 9 am. Chris and Dorothy
Blalock, the church planting family, will meet us in
Charleston and share the vision of the church, after which
we will have a prayer walk. We will eat lunch in Charleston
and will return to Columbia by 3 pm. Sign-up sheets will be
in your Sunday School Classrooms, in the vestibule of the
church and on the piano. You can contact Patsy Stegall at
803-556-0570 if you have any questions. You may also
text her with your name and how many will be coming with
you, if you prefer.
