A TRADITION OF SERVICEA FUTURE OF INNOVATION
Manufacturer of Multistage Centrifugal Blowers
HSI is an ISO 9001:2000 certified manufacturer of multistage centrifugal blowers and exhausters. Our factoryin Houston, Texas houses our state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing and testing capabilities as well as thelargest multistage blower parts inventory in the world. This allows us to supply our customers with innovative, highly engineered products with very competitive lead times and the best customer service in the industry.
Over thirty years ago HSI was founded as a balancing and rotating equipment repair company servingmunicipal and industrial customers in the Texas Gulf Coast area. We soon discovered a demand for better servicein the multistage centrifugal blower market. When our customers were frustrated by long repair lead times, weresponded by manufacturing and warehousing a large parts inventory. When our customers needed more efficientand reliable machines, we responded by developing our own innovative line of blowers and exhausters. Todaywhen our customers bring us difficult applications, we respond with cutting edge solutions.
At HSI we work to continually improve the performance, efficiency and reliability of our blowers. In orderto do this we have made significant investments in the best people, facilities and equipment in the industry. Our engineers use the latest design tools including 3D Modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics and FiniteElement Analysis to pinpoint areas where we can make improvements. Our commitment to R&D, QualityControl, Product Testing, Application Engineering and Inventory Control is driven by our desire to offer ourcustomers the most advanced multistage centrifugal blower products available.
HSI is a global company with representatives and installations on six continents. Our Sales and Engineeringdepartments are trilingual in English, Spanish and Chinese. Our Houston facility is excellently located to servicethe North American and Latin American markets while our Asian representatives provide full technical supportto the Pacific Rim.
We know that outstanding customer service is what has built HSI. Our people are on call at all times tohelp with urgent situations. We pride ourselves in responding quickly to our customers’ requests for informationand quotations. In most cases we can provide the needed information on the same day you contact us. At HSIwe are constantly working to excel. Contact your HSI representative and find out how we can make a differencein your next project.

CCoommppuutteerr AAiiddeedd DDrraaffttiinngg && SSoolliidd MMooddeelliinngg DDeessiiggnnThe basis for an effective program of computer simulated
design is a powerful and flexible three dimensional solid modeling
capability. At HSI we use the industry leading Inventor package
by AutoDesk®. This technology gives us major advantages
including: complete three dimensional visualization, immediate
understanding of the impact of design changes on the whole
machine, greatly reduced design cycle times, compatibility with
our vendors’ computer aided manufacturing systems, improved
drawings for our customers and complete interface with the
latest CFD and FEA design packages.
FFiinniittee EElleemmeenntt AAnnaallyyssiiss ((FFEEAA))The Ansys MechanicalTM finite element analysis software
package and the solid models created in InventorTM allow our
engineers to quickly investigate design issues and initiate
improvements which would be impractical to pursue without
these tools. We use FEA for materials selection, rotor modal
analysis, critical speed calculations, torsional analysis, stress
concentration identification, high cycle fatigue analysis, crack
propagation simulation, frequency response calculations and wall
thickness optimization.
CCoommppuuttaattiioonnaall FFlluuiidd DDyynnaammiiccss ((CCFFDD))One of the most powerful design technologies available is
Computational Fluid Dynamics. Simulations that were too
cumbersome just five years ago are now routine. We use the
CFDesign® package by Blue Ridge Numerics which interfaces
with AutoDesk® InventorTM to enable our engineers to quickly
iterate our solid model designs based on extensive CFD “what-if?”
analysis. CFD allows us to optimize blower performance and
efficiency by analyzing velocity distributions and flow patterns in
order to eliminate recirculation zones, reduce convergence losses
and minimize flow stagnation areas among other items. Also, with
CFD, we are able to analyze flow stream thermodynamic effects
on the physical properties of the materials we select.

ONGOING RESEARCH AND TESTING
6
Research and Development
Our ongoing research and development program ensures that we continually improve our product offerings. We develop one to two new models per year in order to expand our product line performance envelope. At any
given time we have numerous R&D projectsunderway which focus on improving theperformance and efficiency of our existingblower models. Examples of this are: new impeller designs which maximize efficiency, rotor dynamic improvements tofacilitate additional stages, changes to casinggeometry to improve flow characteristics, materials selection for increased durability, and improved controls designs.
TTeessttiinngg FFaacciilliittiieessEvery new design we develop, as well as every blower we build, is tested in our
automated, ASME PTC-10 compliant test lab. It is this validation that completes
the design cycle and ensures that we meet the design objectives we set for
ourselves. Also, because we test every blower we build, this facility is an important
component of our Quality Management System, allowing us to monitor and
maintain product quality over the long haul.
We are committed to creating a test facility that will allow us to meet the
needs of customers world wide. Some highlights of our test capabilities are:
power capacity up to 2,000 hp, variable frequency drives, multiple voltages from
230 to 10,000, ASME PTC-10 performance testing, in line torque meter,
vibration analysis, sound testing, real time automated data collection and ample
accommodations for test witnessing. In addition to final product testing we
perform a number of in-process tests such as incoming parts inspection, materials
testing, hydrostatic pressure testing, blower leak testing, impeller and rotor
dynamic balance testing, etc.
7
A COMPLETE LINE OFAUTOMATED CONTROLS
We Make it Personal
HSI understands that every application is different, which is why we offer controls that are easy to customize toyour specific installation.
SSttaannddaarrdd CCoonnttrrooll MMooddeellssOur standard control models offer many
options from standard analog controls to
panels with full touch screen interfaces. They
can accommodate a variety of data inputs
such as flow, pressure, temperature and
dissolved oxygen. These models can modulate
automated throttling valves, variable frequency
drives, blow off valves, etc. These units can also
be programmed to communicate with almost
any type of plant master control systems.
In addition to these standard controls,
HSI has developed custom control systems
to manage entire processes, often using VFD
drives. These systems are advanced enough
to monitor and control the entire process.
The use of VFD to optimize the flow rate
allows the blower or exhauster to reach
maximum efficiency.
INSTALLATION MARKETSAND APPLICATIONS
Multistage Centrifugal Blowers in Municipal and Industrial Applications
HSI has thousands of installations located around the world. In applications ranging from 100 cfm to 40,000cfm, air service to sour gas, simple on/off controls to variable frequency drives with complete process control,we have the experience to meet your project requirements.
