The Maintenance Rally
T he first rally in 2016 for the Nashville Music City unit was held in mid-March at Piney Grove Campground in northern Mississippi. Billed as an "Old Time Maintenance Rally", there was some
maintaining done, but a lot more socializing. This was a good thing! We had the opportunity to get to know sev-eral new members, this being their first rally with us.
Eleven rigs and 20 members attended the rally.
We started with a pot luck chili dinner. All the other din-ners, except Saturday night, was also pot luck, necessitated by the remoteness of the campground. The one dinner out was at a place called Martyville at Burton. This was basically a convenience store with a restaurant open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The food and service was very good, much better than we expected from the appearance. This was the closest place to the campground.
Breakfast on Thursday was a real adventure. Jim, the in-trepid host, supervised by Bill Martin, and assisted by the men in the group, made three breakfast casseroles in Dutch Ovens. Jim had assisted in this at a Southeastern Camping Unit rally in Florida in February. In spite of a lack of experience, the casseroles turned out great, if not especially low cal!
The maintenance part of the rally was mainly on Friday. This was mostly due to the expected drop in temperature expected Friday night. The morning was devoted to a group discussion, guided by Howard Lefkowitz's series of articles. That afternoon, several guys checked things like tire pressure, wheel torque, battery water, sniffing for propane leaks, etc.
Overall, this was a mostly unstructured event. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Piney Grove is a great campground, but isolated. In the future we might look at later dates to do this. Not just the weather, but it was during spring break. There were plenty of available campsites, but the campground was fairly busy.
I think the concept of a maintenance rally early in the season is a good one. We will be looking for a different host next year, so please consider volunteering when the call comes this fall.
Look forward to seeing everyone at the Tennessee State Rally next month (April 28—May 1).
