Well-being Wednesday Newsletter Wednesday 15th July Edition 11 Welcome to Collis School’s Well-being Wednesday Newsletter! When we started the Well-being Newsletter we were in a full lockdown, at home, restricted in what we could do and where we could go. The days were never ending and the weeks even longer, but over the weeks the restrictions and guidance has changed, but it has still meant we have all had to adapt to a new normal and a normal that is right for you and your family. We hope that the newsletters have offered you support and ideas to help you with this and we are grateful for being part of a community. The next chapter starts as school finishes at the end of the week, for some it marks the end of their time at Collis and for others a break. We have all faced many challenges in this time and will continue to do so, but hope with the resources in the newsletter over the weeks that you have places to seek reassurance, help, support and fun, so please do use them. We wish you all well in your personal journey and look forward to continuing that journey with you in the many different forms that it takes. With love and kindness the well-being team. “You are not a drop in the ocean. Well-being Wednesday Newsletter Wednesday 15th July Edition 11

Welcome to Collis School’s Well-being Wednesday Newsletter!

When we started the Well-being Newsletter we were in a full lockdown, at home, restricted in what we could do and where we could go. The days were never ending and the weeks even longer, but over the weeks the restrictions and

guidance has changed, but it has still meant we have all had to adapt to a new normal and a normal that is right for you and your family. We hope that the

newsletters have offered you support and ideas to help you with this and we are grateful for being part of a community. We wish you all well in your personal journey and look forward to continuing that journey with

you in the many different forms that it takes. With love and kindness the well-being team.

Relaxation Pretend you are a lazy cat which has just just woken up from a long nap in the sun!

.

Breathing

A simple exercise that encourages deep breathing – a way to relax. Pretend you have a nice smelling flower in one hand and a slow burning candle in the other.

● Breathe in slowly through your nose as you smell the flower.

● Breathe out slowly through your mouth as you blow out the candle.

● Repeat a few times.

(From Save the Children)

Music Why not learn a new song and perform it for your family. You could write it and put music to it or you could pick a song you like and learn the lyrics

Art Draw a picture in chalk on the ground so it can be washed away. What do you want to draw? Do you want to say something? How big are you going to make it?

For Parents Home Start a charity who support families have a whole range of resources for families including activities, help with sleep, bereavement, mental

illness, separation…..

For Staff Just have a good break and rest. Everyone has worked incredibly hard during very difficult times. We’d like to thank everyone who has had to put in additional effort

especially those learning new skills!

If you are craving the arts, Bill Nighy takes you on a short but ‘exquisite’ journey around the Courtauld Gallery with his usual entertaining aplomb. It’s a little over 2 minutes but is worth watching!

Follow this with a relaxing, ‘Walk into the painting of Autumn in Chiou and Hua Mountains’ It’s made for VR but worked on a desktop PC. If you

leave Youtube running you move onto Dali which, as you can guess is a more disturbing experience!

Throughout July there are live online planetarium shows presented by an astronomer. Starting from our home planet, the Earth, we’ll travel through our celestial neighbourhood, visiting objects like planets, moons and asteroids, and ending with a fly-out to view our galaxy, the Milky Way. Solar System Discovery | Virtual Planetarium Show | Visit Online, Royal Observatory If you are awake at around 11pm or just before dawn, you will be able to see Comet Neowise. It is made up of material dating back 4.6 billion years - the origin of our solar system. This comet won’t be back in view for another 7000 years. It really does look like a comet and it’s trail is visible to the human eye although binoculars mean the trail stands out superbly. You will need to look north and low to spot it! For Everyone We all need love! We hope this short film by Edward Monkton

will make you smile. Love Monkey

Here are some more great action ideas for ways we can make a difference:

1. Set an intention - make a personal commitment to make a positive impact each day for yourself and those around you, even if it is something small.

2. Look after your body - move your body each day even if indoors dancing round the living room. Load up on healthy fruit & veg to support your immune system.

3. Nurture relationships - Reach out digitally by sending messages to friends; remind them of a memory or let them know something you're grateful to them for.

4. Help others - make some extra food and drop a meal off on the doorstep for a friend who is unwell. And encourage friends to make wise & kind choices too.

5. Look for what's good - take some time to notice the world around you and be grateful for the good things. What can you appreciate even in difficult times?

6. Make the most of it. If you end up self-isolating or have events cancelled, how can you make the most of that time? e.g. learning a new skill.

And remember to be willing to reach out and ask for help when you need it too.
