A feast for the eyes at Kesorn’s

By Alcina Charlie, VTO eMarketing: Earlier this month, I popped into Kesorn’s Exotic Thai, near Peter Pan school in Port Vila to get the owners Mihaly & Kesorn Szabados story on what triggered them to come here and start a restaurant. Originally Hungarian and having moved to Australia in early 50’s, Mr Szabados started his business Kesorn’s Food and Gift House, in Emerald Queensland where guests not only feasted their eyes on their plate but also marvel at Mihaly’s beautiful accessories of opals, sapphires and other precious stones. The couple’s passion in jewelry making continued well into Papua New Guinea for 12 years, the Solomon Islands for 11 years, and now Vanuatu where they’ve decided to reside. In March 2011, Kesorns Exotic Thai opened for business and has been welcoming guests from surrounding resorts and hotels. Kesorn’s also displays and sells a collection of accessories of south pacific seashells and other oceanic gems. The cuisine at Kesorn’s boasts delicious mouth watering Thai, and next month, the restaurant will be welcoming new chefs. The VTO wishes the Szabados all the best and looks forward to working together to promoting Vanuatu abroad. Call Kerson’s Exotic Thai on 29949.

Awards

Above photo: Current National Culinary Team members, L-R Bill Leonardo; Chris Bulemene; Maylin Dan; Roslyn George, For immediate release 27th October 2013: After a week of strong competition amongst the best NiVanuatu competitors of the Origin Culinary Arts & Hospitality Show, the 2014 National Culinary Team was announced at the grand finale, the Gala Awards Dinner. All competitors, both Senior Chefs and Junior Chefs, who wanted to make it into the National Culinary Team had to compete in compulsory cooking competitions. They had to make a dessert, cook a Vanuatu beef dish and follow a secret recipe in the Mystery Box challenge. The competition for the Senior and Junior Chef of the Year 2013 is tough with highly skilled Chefs competing against each other for top points and the chance to represent Vanuatu at international cooking competitions. Chefs were awarded medals at the end of the Competition, but the Awards for the Senior and the Junior Chef of the Year, and the announcement of who had made it into the National Culinary Team was left until the Awards Dinner hosted at Iririki Island Resort with celebrated Chef and Author, Robert Oliver.
