Principal’s Report: Students are demonstrating joy in learning daily at Voyager School during the New Year! As I walk through classrooms, I see students engaged in silent reading, informational writing, and thoughtful math problem solving. During free time, they are enjoying the PTSO's generous donation of play equipment by playing basketball, four-square, and tether ball. Teachers often join in the fun; shooting hoops and sharing in four-square games. We have also enjoyed reaping the benefits of our "Artists in the Schools" grant, which nurtures our Arts Integration work at Voyager. Our last faculty meeting welcomed Dan Kelin, of Hawaii Theater for Youth, who had teachers engage in vocal techniques to enhance comprehension of concepts. It was quite entertaining to see groups of teachers mimicking a morning in the forest or a busy street by making noises! The office is busy with applications and enrollment for the new school year. Please encourage friends and family to join our lovely school of choice! March 13th is the deadline for applications. You can find enrollment information on www.voyagerschool.com. Thanks to all of you parents for sharing your children with us daily! Teacher News: Aloha families! Teachers have been busy since we returned from Winter break! We have been integrating our recent professional development training, using the Writer's Workshop model from Lucy Calkins. As you can see, our classrooms are rich with informational writing. Stay tuned for final products in your child's Trimester 2 student portfolio. In addition, teachers will be beginning end of trimester assessments soon...to see how much our keiki have grown in their understanding since November. Narrative report cards will go home via on Tuesday, February 25th. Don't forget to save the date for Student Led Conferences on Friday, February 28th! We will see you there!

Students’ Report: An Attitude of Gratitude!

The PTSO was showered with a plethora of very artsy, creative cards and letters of gratitude for the recess equipment! Here are some sweet and funny excerpts.

Dear PTSO: Domo Arigato. Thank you for all that you did for this school. Thanks for putting in your free time to giving us all our recess equipment. I really enjoy crushing everyone in b-ball and tetherball. You just made recess a lot more fun. Thank you. Dear PTSO: Thank you for the recess equipment. I especially enjoy the basketball hoop and balls. These are awesome because the basketballs and hoops were really run down. Also the kickballs were slowly popping or going missing. Dear PTSO: Thank you for buying play balls for each class. […] Most of all for buying tetherball. The tetherball is what I play every recess time with my friends. Now that we have playing balls everyone can enjoy recess. Dear PTSO: Thank you very much for buying us the recess equipment. It helps us a lot because our old equipment broke. Now we can still exercise and have at recess instead of being bored. […] The newly painted foursquare helps because some people couldn’t tell if they were in the square or not. […] I’m grateful for it. Thank you.
