Afghanistan election system

In Afghanistan we use SNTV system for the multi member constituency elections and two round system for the presidential elections.

In Afghanistan we have not managed to establish a voters’ list yet. This is due to the lack of a single Identity document, but the process of distribution of electronic ID is under way to be conducted soon.

All the previous elections have been conducted without voters list, however, IEC has its own voter registry that is a database with biometric analysis information and has distributed voters with a voter ID card.

This is why there are claims of fraud and sometimes these claims are just. We are conducting elections in a situation of war and insurgency and we still have local powers governing the situation in their favor.
