Guiding Principles1. Ending hunger in the United States and worldwide by 2030 is possible;

2. Ending hunger requires strong commitment and leadership from the U.S. government;

3. Ending hunger means fulfilling the right to food by ensuring all people at all times are able to access enough food for an active, healthy life;

4. Ending hunger is the shared responsibility of individuals, communities, the private sector, non-profits, faith-based organizations, and government;

5. Ending hunger is not a partisan issue;

6. Ending hunger requires both a strong safety net and policies that expand opportunity and reduce poverty;

7. The 2016 election provides an exceptional opportunity to make ending hunger, poverty and opportunity a higher political priority;

8. Therefore, we plan to work together to engage voters and candidates around the goal of ending hunger by 2030.

• Research the candidates. Find out what your elected official or candidate has said about ending hunger and poverty

• Websites, newspapers, Votetoendhunger.org

• Recruit others to go with you. Better chance of getting to ask a question if there are more of you to choose from.

• Prepare what you will ask ahead of time. Make sure you are comfortable asking “The Question”

• Dress conspicuously. Wear a “Vote to End Hunger” t-shirt or conspicuous clothing (bright colors) but avoid shirts with provocative writing.

Candidate Events: Maximizing Your Impact• Get there early to scope it out: Sit in the front. If they are taken written questions,

many places go in order of when questions were written

• Bring your friends: There is strength in numbers

• Sit strategically: Go to the front and near microphones

• Be “first, fast, high” and ask the question! Raise your hand immediately when it is time to ask questions, and keep it up there

• Hold on to the microphone. If you can, keep the microphone in your hand and don’t give it up until the candidate answers (may need ask a follow-up question).

• Follow on social media: Many events and forums take questions via social media

• Work the “rope line.” Introduce yourself and ask your question or follow up on one you already asked.
