Parking in Edgeley Streets has got worse and worse and has now reached the point where local residents and shoppers are finding it almost impossible to park. The problem is being caused, in the main, by commuters catching the train into Manchester and leaving their cars in what has become a free car park. "Over the years we have looked at how we can help the situation but any Traffic Regulation Orders would also apply to local residents" said Cllr Sheila Cllr Sheila Cllr Sheila Cllr Sheila BaileyBaileyBaileyBailey "and that wouldn't help". Some years ago the Council did carry out a consultation about introducing permit parking but there wasn't enough support at the time. Since then the situation has got worse and the amount of all day parking has increased. "There isn't a quick or easy answer" added Cllr Sheila BaileyCllr Sheila BaileyCllr Sheila BaileyCllr Sheila Bailey "but we do have to try and find a solution". We are meeting with Highways Officers in March to start the process of trying to find a solution, if we can. Even with a parking scheme there can be no guarantee of parking outside your house. In the meantime, with neighbours helping each other there should be enough space A local resident recently said to us "We park courteously and fairly nearby to our house. There are very often other cars parked directly outside our house which is no bother to us. We just find a space where there is room". We will report back to residents as soon as we can.

Bowling Alley Bowling Alley Bowling Alley Bowling Alley ---- Ligh Ligh Ligh Light Cinemat Cinemat Cinemat Cinema Who remembers the Grand Central Bowling Alley? It was very popular in its day. Now Stockport is going to get a new Bowling Alley, based in the Light Cinema complex.

The Light Cinema has been granted planning permission to expand into a currently vacant neighbouring unit at its Redrock site. It will see the creation of six 48ft lanes, which will be accessed through the cinema's existing lobby. "This is good news for Stockport" said Cllr Philip HardingCllr Philip HardingCllr Philip HardingCllr Philip Harding "and will help to increase the already increasing number of visitors to Stockport Town Centre".

Feeding the pigeonsFeeding the pigeonsFeeding the pigeonsFeeding the pigeons Unfortunately, food is still being thrown onto the ground in Hollywood Park near to Hardman Street in order to feed the pigeons. The Council is aware of the problem and will take action if anyone persists in doing this. Leaving food lying about anywhere attracts rats which then have to be dealt with by Pest Control. "It's best not to attract them in the first place, particularly near to a children's play area" said Cllr Cllr Cllr Cllr Sheila BaileySheila BaileySheila BaileySheila Bailey.... "We have requested signage to be installed to try and stop this happening".

They have also been asked to supply a date for completion. If any of the owners do not comply the Enforcement Officer will take further action. REACH (Residents of Edgeley and Cheadle Heath) Community Group

This group started life as

NORRA (just around the Northgate Rd area) but

grew to include all E &

CH residents. We meet at the Alexandra Pub at 7pm every

two months on the first Tuesday of the month (although we have been having extra

meetings recently because of ASB issues).

The next meeting will be on 7th April. Our thanks to

the Police for attending and to Steve (the landlord

of the Alexandra Pub) for

providing us with a meeting room.

Sheila, Matt and Philip have also met with the Area Police Sergeant to discuss various issues in the area concerning Castle Street, Alexandra Park and off-road bikers. Please email [email protected] if you wish to be added to the REACH distribution list.
