HHaanndd wwrriittiinngg iiss nnoo mmoorree aann aarrdduuoouuss ttaasskkMaster. Prahalad[name changed] was a 7 year old boy has been referred by his

pediatrician to OT evaluation with the complaint of handwriting dysfunction.

Occupational therapist initiated the assessment by obtaining thorough history

from his parents and teacher [over telephone] regarding the childs academic and

writing skills. In addition, the childs written work sample was inspected. With

this basic information, the occupational therapist selected and administered

certain tests to identify the childs visual perceptual and fine motor skills.

Assessment is progressed by clinical observation tests and direct monitoring of

childs writing performance. The assessment revealed childs deficits in visuo-

spatial and visual discrimination skills, poor proximal joint stability and

limitation in fine motor skills. OT sessions were planned twice a week to assist

the child to overcome the difficulties. In addition, occupational therapist

recommended the needful modifications in the class room and home environment

to both class teacher and parents. At the end of 2 months the child was found to

be significantly improved in his writing skill and sessions were discontinued with

    a home program.
