Principles of Operation

Vortices are created when a fluid passes around a bluff body asshown in Figure 1. Vortices are alternately shed on each side ofthe body, 180 degrees out of phase to each other, resulting in anoscillating pressure gradient. As flow increases the frequency ofvortices increases in proportion to the increased flow therebycreating a linear relationship.

General Description

Constructed of type 316 stainless steel, wafers may be installedin-line by customer provided or built-in flanges. Key pad or com-munication interface functionalities include measuring units, pro-grammable flow alarm, two programmable totalizers, program-mable flow rate pulse output, two programmable optically isolat-ed outputs, battery backed real time clock (RTC), digital commu-nication interface (RS-232 or RS-485), programmable diagnosticevents log and register with date and time stamp, programmableprocess variable log with date stamp, calibration and flowing fluidparameters adjustment, extensive diagnostics.

Our exclusive dual signal processing technology independentlymeasures each vortex on either side of the bluff body and filtersout non-flow noise. This results in less noise and higher accura-cy throughout the flow range. Aalborg’s proprietary DSP algo-rithm accurately filters vortex frequency, improving the quality offlow measurements.

Local 2x16 LCD readout provides flow rate and total flow volumereading in selectable engineering units, diagnostic events indica-tion and feature a password protected access to the processparameters to ensure against tampering or resetting.

Principles of Operation

Vortices are created when a fluid passes around a bluff body asshown in Figure 1. Vortices are alternately shed on each side of thebody, 180 degrees out of phase to each other, resulting in an oscil-lating pressure gradient. As flow increases the frequency of vorticesincreases in proportion to the increased flow thereby creating a lin-ear relationship.

General Description

Constructed of type 316 stainless steel, wafers may be installed in-line by customer provided or built-in flanges. Key pad or communica-tion interface functionalities include measuring units, programmableflow alarm, two programmable totalizers, programmable flow ratepulse output, two programmable optically isolated outputs, batterybacked real time clock (RTC), digital communication interface (RS-232 or RS-485), programmable diagnostic events log and registerwith date and time stamp, programmable process variable log withdate stamp, calibration and flowing fluid parameters adjustment, extensive diagnostics.

Our exclusive dual signal processing technology independently meas-ures each vortex on either side of the bluff body and filters out non-flownoise. This results in less noise and higher accuracy throughout theflow range. Aalborg’s proprietary DSP algorithm accurately filters vor-tex frequency, improving the quality of flow measurements.

Local 2x16 LCD readout provides flow rate and total flow volumereading in selectable engineering units, diagnostic events indicationand feature a password protected access to the process parametersto ensure against tampering or resetting.

VORTEX INSERTION FLOW METERS

Principles of Operation

Vortices are created when a fluid passes arounda bluff body as shown in Figure 1. Vortices arealternately shed on each side of the body, 180degrees out of phase to each other, resulting inan oscillating pressure gradient. As flow increas-es the frequency of vortices increases in propor-tion to the increased flow thereby creating a linearrelationship.

General Description

Constructed of type 316 stainless steel, Vortexmeters may be inserted into pipe conduits carry-ing gases, liquids or steam. Insertion applicationsfacilitate inside diameters from 4" to 12 feet!

By porting directly into piping, conduit lines neednot be lengthened. Optional isolation valve per-mits installation, servicing, or removal of vortexmeters without having to shut gas, liquid or steamprocessing operations.

Key pad or communication interface is providedto access the following parameters: measuringunits; programmable flow alarm; two programma-ble totalizers; programmable flow rate pulse out-put; two programmable optically isolated outputs;battery backed real time clock (RTC); digital com-munication interface (RS-232 or RS-485); pro-grammable diagnostic events log and registerwith date/time stamp; programmable processvariable log with date/time stamp; calibration andflowing fluid parameters adjustment; extensivediagnostics.

Our exclusive dual signal processing technologyindependently measures each vortex on eitherside of the bluff body and filters out non-flownoise. This results in less noise and higher accu-racy throughout the flow range. Aalborg’s propri-etary DSP algorithm accurately filters vortex fre-quency, improving the quality of flow measure-ments.

User preset temperature and pressure informa-tion processed by an on board computer to cal-culate density and mass flow. Local 2x16 LCDreadout provides simultaneous volumetric andmass flow readings, total flow volume reading inselectable engineering units, diagnostic eventsindication, and password protected - user enteredparameters.
