Membership/Name Badges/Signing In or Out

Membership is available to those individuals 55+. The

annual cost is $50 per year (fiscal year runs from July 1

June 30). New memberships will be prorated after

January 1, 2019. The cost to any current member

renewing their membership after August 31 is $55.

All members must wear their Center name badge when

at the Center. Members must sign in/out on the sheets

placed at the front and back entrances, and must

indicate if they are in possession of their name badge.

If you do not have your badge with you, please stop and get a

Visitor’s Badge from the receptionist, and when you leave, return

the badge to the receptionist.

Use Good Judgment

Participants assume the risk of taking part in all activities. The Mt.

Juliet Senior Activity Center is held harmless from all claims

resulting from taking part in any activity at the Senior Center or

by participating in any offsite activities sponsored by the Center.

Participant Code of Conduct

Any participant whose behavior infringes on the rights of other

participants and/or staff, volunteers or instructors, could result in

participant being asked to leave the center. Any concerns about

the center can be expressed to the elected membership advisory

council representatives or directly to the Center Director.

Inclement Weather Policy

The Mt. Juliet Senior Activity Center utilizes the Wilson County

Public Schools Inclement Weather Policy to determine its weather

policy. MJSAC will be closed if the Wilson County Public

Schools are closed due to weather conditions; all meals, activities,

classes and trips are cancelled. If schools delay opening or close

early, the Center will open or close accordingly.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels (MOW) still needs kitchen volunteers daily and

also drivers to deliver to home bound clients. If you can help,

please contact our OnSite Manager Lisa Cook at 615.758.2777.

She also wishes to thank those who have volunteered since the last

newsletter.

CENTER UPDATES

Cologne/Perfume Please be careful to not “overdo”

your use of fragrances when coming to the Center. We

have several actually many folks who are highly

allergic to many fragrances. Please be considerate in

your usage. Thank you!

Receptionists We still need a permanent Thursday

morning receptionist as well as other “floaters” to

cover the desk while our wonderful receptionists take

a break or are ill. Please see Pat Garrison for more

details.

Kitchen/Cleaning Help

We could use some additional workers in the kitchen

for preparation, serving and clean up for Monday and

Friday “InHouse” Lunches.

Volunteers are the hear tbeat of an organization

like MJSAC. There is no way that our limited num-

ber of staff could produce the great programs and ac-

tivities that our members enjoy without assistance

from volunteers. Please consider volunteering for any

of the many opportunities available. See the sheets in

the front hallway.

Welcome to Sharon Coghlan who is now helping us

with Data Entry and other activities. We are happy to

have her on staff!

REVERSE RAFFLE A

GREAT SUCCESS!!

Thanks to all who participated in

any way the

Center made

$9,150 from

the sale of the

283 tickets!

Thank you to all who have served.

MJSAC will be closed on

Monday, May 27

in observance of

Memorial Day.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

MJSAC is so very proud to recognize our wonderful volunteers who have contributed so much time to the

center in the past year. All in all, 69 persons were recognized with a certificate and small gift to thank them

for their service to the center. The total number of hours donated was in excess of 10,000 this past year! We

could not operate as we do without our wonderful volunteers! Thank you! Below are some scenes from the

lovely Volunteer breakfast, hosted by McKendree Village, on April 25th.

COMING SOON a newly rebuilt side entrance, thanks

to the Volunteers on Mission group that have provid-

ed demoli!on of the ro#en, leaking por!on and a new

roof all for the cost of materials. Thank you so much!

Hopefully, the side door closing problem will also be

fixed soon we are working on it.

MJSAC Ongoing “Wish List”

The following came to the Center from Marilyn Wade of GNRC Aging and Disability Services please

read carefully!

Watch out for the latest Medicare scam DNA/Genetic Cancer Testing Schemes!

Each year, the Medicare program loses $60 billion to fraud. The best way to reduce this figure is beneficiary

education to prevent and reduce known pathways to fraudulent activities and unethical billing practices.

The Tennessee Senior Medicare Patrol has been hearing about DNA and genetic cancer screening test

schemes in other parts of the country, and we recently learned that they are starting here in Tennessee.

What is the Scam?

Older adults at senior centers, housing complexes, and other community locations are targeted by companies

promoting “free” genetic testing, cancer screening, or DNA testing. These screenings are frequently done un-

der the pretense of an educational event. During the event, older adults are asked to swab their cheek to col-

lect a DNA sample which will be sent to the lab for analysis. They are then told that the test will be covered

completely by Medicare, and all that is needed to process it is their Medicare number.

Be Aware:

Medicare only pays for DNA or genetic testing in rare circumstances where it is medically necessary for

treatment or diagnosis of a medical condition. These tests must be ordered by the patient’s own physician,

and there must be documentation in medical records to substantiate the need for the testing.

What Should You Do?

If you are contacted by phone, hang up! Do not answer any questions or give out any personal information or

your Medicare number. Contact the Tennessee Senior Medicare Patrol at 18668367677 to report any relat-

ed activities or suspicious requests for your Medicare number. Remember that Medicare will not call you to

confirm your personal information, your Medicare number, or ask questions about your health.

BOOKCASES NEEDED!

Libby McSpadden, our wonder ful volunteer Librar ian, asks that if anyone has, or has access to, any

bookcases that we could have to house our evergrowing number of books, she would be most grateful.

Please let her know if you have one (or more) to donate.

We did great! During our recent Fire Drill

conducted by the MJFD, all present exited

the Center in 1 minute and 11 seconds!

WOW thank you for participating!
