Volunteers Carry Out Section Meetings Volunteers from throughout the state plan and carry out the technical program and vendor show in their section in the spring of every year. Some of the volunteers serve one year terms while others, such as registration workers, help out for only a day or two. If you are interested in becoming more involved in your section’s activities, feel free to phone or email the central office and we will put you in touch with your section’s primary contact person. 2013 section meeting reports appear on pages 2, 3, & 4 of this newsletter.
2013 Annual Technical Program MWWC’s Training Coordinator, Lori Cook, and Vice Chairman, Kent Peetz, are putting together the program for the September 25 & 26, 2013 Annual Technical Program. This program, like all of MWWC’s training events, is designed to meet DNR’s requirements for operator renewal credits.

Thursday, September 25th, the
exhibit hall will again open at
7:00 a.m. for a hot breakfast.

East Central Section MWWC’s East Central Section held its 2013 meeting at St. Peters City Hall in St. Peters, MO on Wednesday, April 10, with nearly 100 people in attendance. New members attending the meeting received a $25.00 gift card. Chairman Tom Aaron, Missouri American Water Co.; Vice Chair Jonell Hase, Alliance Water Resources; Secretary Nick Wolf, Alliance Water Resources; Training Chairman Marty Robison, Missouri American Water Co.; Board Representative Don Rea, MDNR/SLRO and others devoted countless hours to planning and carrying out the event. At the business meeting, Don Rea encouraged members to become active as section officers and to nominate deserving individuals for recognition through MWWC's awards program. The 2014 East Central Section Meeting will be held in St. Peters on April 9. 2013 Water Operator of the Year: Gerry Hoormann (Missouri American Water, Chesterfield) 2013 Kramer Award Recipient: Joe Richardson (NE Public Sewer District, Fenton)
Midwest Section Thank you to section officers, Jim Gunderson (Columbia Water & Light), Ken Davis (University of Missouri), and Curtis Flatt (University of Missouri) for coordinating and carrying out the 2013 Midwest Section Meeting. The training portion of the meeting provided six credit renewal hours for certified operators. Highlights of the day included split technical sessions, a backhoe rodeo, a barbeque lunch, door prizes, and operator/vendor interaction time. The 2014 Midwest Section Meeting will be held at the Boone County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, April 30. 2013 Kramer Award Recipient: Della Cundiff (Mokane Water Co-op)

Northeast Section
April 9, 2013 was a great day in Macon. The official count for the day was 119. Congratulations again on a job very well done to Chairman Josh Wright (Moberly), Vice Chairman Allan Schneider (Brookfield), Secretary/Treasurer Ginny Ismay (Marshall), Board Representative Matt Everts (Moberly) and others that helped plan and carry out the activities for the day. The meeting consisted of MDNR-approved operator training, a business meeting, award presentations, and an excellent homestyle meal. The section asked members to submit award nominations to either the section or to the central office in Jefferson City. The 2014 meeting will be held in Macon on April 8.

Northwest Section
The Northwest section held its 2013 meeting at The Ramada Inn in St. Joseph. One hundred and sixty two people attended the meeting. Thank you Curtis & Gail Hedrick, Bernie & Jamie Meyer, Carri Ishmael, Bart Downing, Charles Dellario, Paul Rinehart, David & Martha Jane Williams, Trudy Burton, and others who helped plan and carry out the event. Your dedication to the MWWC and the operators it serves is evident in the success of your meeting.
New officers for the coming year are Curtis Hedrick (Tarkio), Chairman; Bart Downing (PWSD # 1 – Platte Co.), Vice Chairman; Bernie Meyer (St. Joseph), Secretary; and Charles Dellario (PWSD #13 – Jackson Co.), Board Representative.
2013 Kramer Award Recipient: Kelly Spiers (Edgerton, MO) 2013 Operator of the Year: Bryan Markt (Maitland, MO)
The newly created William E. (Bill) Hills Award, honoring those that have shown great dedication to the NW Section, was presented to Brock Pfost, White Cloud Engineering and Construction; Tom Decker, Decker Construction; Don Caillouet, Layne Company; Garland Sigmon, Alliance Pump & Mechanical; and Tom Stechmann, Utility Services. A proclamation was presented to Charlie Graham, from the City of Buckner, in recognition of his recent retirement.
The 2014 Northwest Section Meeting will be held on April 3 in St. Joseph.

Southwest Section
May 7, 2013 was a beautiful day for the Southwest Section Meeting at the Monett City Park. Thank you, City of Monett, for hosting the event. Section officers, Jay Lewis (Aurora) and Duane Linch (Neosho) were the primary planners for the event. Congratulations to Loyd Rawlings (Highlandville) as the 2013 Southwest Section Kramer Award recipient. Loyd, along with the Kramer award recipients from the other sections, will be recognized at the annual meeting in September. As always, the program included a packed vendor tent, a full day of operator training, and Water Product’s slow cooked BBQ, which is always the hit of the day. Dan Johnson (Joplin) will serve as this section’s chairman, Duane Linch (Neosho) as vice chairman, Jay Lewis (Empire District Water) as secretary/treasurer, and Don White (Lamar) as secretary for the coming year. Monett’s City Park’s new multipurpose “casino” building has been reserved for the section’s 2014 annual spring meeting on Tuesday, May 6.

Southeast Section
The Southeast section held its 2013 meeting at the Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau on Wednesday, April 24. One hundred forty-five people attended the meeting. Southeast Section Officers for the coming year are Kenneth Eric Owens (Cape Girardeau), Chairman; Brian Strickland (Strickland Engineering), Vice-Chairman; Todd Fulton (Cape Girardeau), Secretary/Treasurer; Quentin Overbeck (Jackson), Training Chairman and Steve Lewis (Parma), Section Board Representative. Paid registrants at this year’s Southeast Section Meeting received a t-shirt, bearing MWWC’s logo and the name of the section. The program (course #1304345) included 4.0 hours across the board of MDNR-approved operator training, door prizes, a packed house of vendors, and a delicious homestyle meal. Many thanks to JR Shell (Fredericktown), Todd Fulton (Cape Girardeau), Eric Owens (Cape Girardeau), and Steve Lewis (Parma) for a job very well done. As great as this year’s Southeast Section Meeting was, next year’s event promises to be even bigger and better. The Southeast section will hold its 2014 Section Meeting on April 23. The setting for the 2014 Southeast Section Meeting will be at the City of Cape Girardeau’s Osage Centre.
