Welcome

• Filling The Void is a 501c3 non-profit ministry

• We serve sack lunches, encourage people & offer to pray with them

• Most of our work occurs outside in all weather conditions

• Winner of 2 national community service awards

• 15 years of experience with the homeless & needy

Who we serve

• One-third are homeless

• One-third live in shelters

• One-third are simply poor & needy

• Many are suffering from loneliness, mental illness & addiction

• Some have suffered from abuse

How to get involved

• Reach out to [email protected] to sign up

• One of our leaders in your city will follow up with you

• Most outreaches last 30 minutes to an hour

• We typically work on the streets in downtown/metro areas

• Invite us to speak at your company, church or school

What’s your role?

• Be friendly. Serve sack lunches with love & a smile

• Be ready to encounter the needy and talk with them

• Speak up if you have a question or feel uncomfortable

• Its ok to just observe if you’re new to this

• Follow guidelines: helps protect you & provides fairness for everyone

Guidelines

• Always work with another volunteer. Teams are best.

• One sack lunch per person unless recipient becomes hostile

• Don’t offer anything beyond what we provide

• Don’t bring additional things to hand out

• Don’t approach anyone who is visibly angry/intoxicated/high

• Don’t give out your personal contact information

• Never give money, no matter how small the amount

Risks

• Encountering people with various additions

• Interacting with people who may be prone to violence

• Potential exposure to unsanitary conditions & disease (such as TB)

• Potential exposure to second-hand smoke

• Meeting individuals with criminal backgrounds, including sex offenders

• Encountering people with mental illness

Our goals

• Recognize & reinforce the value of human life

• Demonstrate God’s love in practical, personal ways

• Feed the body and the soul

• Point people toward the hope they can have in Jesus

• Connect people with other services, agencies & shelters

Serve anyone in need

We have a non-discrimination policy. It states:

• There are no religious requirements for receiving food, clothing or other essentials from Filling The Void.

• We are happy to serve anyone among the homeless and needy without bias, prejudice or discrimination.

• In accordance with Biblical teaching, we believe that all people are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and are worthy of respect (1 Peter 2:17).

• We do not discriminate against patrons on the basis of age, race, color, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or addiction status.

Funding

• Our support comes from individuals, businesses and churches

• All donations are tax-deductible

• Each sack lunch ranges in price from $2.50-$4.00 depending on city

• Planning to serve more than 20,000 meals in 2019
