INDEPENDENCE SECURITY SOCIALIZATION QUALITY

With the holidays just around the corner, many of us will be anxious to get out

those special decorations. A word of caution, however: No drop cords, surge protectors, or multi-plug adapters are allowed in a resident’s room, nor any “real” evergreen wreaths, seedlings, Norfolk pines, etc. Doors cannot be completely cov- ered in paper or plastic (per Iowa State Fire Marshal). Also, only over-the-door wreath hangers that allow the door to latch completely can be used. This is a great time of year to make sure each room is in compliance. If you have any ques-tions, contact Steve Werner, Plant and Operations Director.

On November 10 we honored our Good Neighbor Society veterans and showed how proud we are of each and every one of them. We showed our appreciation and support for the sacri-

fices they made for our freedoms so many years ago. A big thank you to all those who joined us in support of our veterans.

PLEASE NOTE

Please Note Families should let the Good Neighbor Home know two days in advance if resi-dents are going out for the holiday. -A reminder that anytime a resident leaves the facility, the person responsible must sign them out/back in at the nurses station.

Visitors- Employees - Parking at GNH Keep in mind when parking at GNS to please be sure and park your vehicle back from the curb and sidewalk so maintenance is able to do snow removal safely and efficiently. Use extra caution when navi-gating the sidewalks and parking lots, too. Thank You!

Holiday Mail Mail is very important to our residents! We remind you to please remember to ad-dress your mail with full names and room numbers (when known). Be sure you do not address your mail to “grandma” or “grandpa.” We are unable to direct this mail to the right person when it arrives at GNH addressed as such. We want to be sure our residents re-ceive their mail promptly. Thank You!

Resident Profile - Virginia Olsem Virginia is the highlighted resident for the month of December. Virginia was born March 19 in Rodney, IA. She earned her diploma from Smithland High School and also completed comptometer school. After graduation she worked as a comptometer

operator for Swift & Co. for three years, and then once she married and had a family she stayed home and was a homemaker. Virginia and Ronald Uhl were high school sweethearts and married June 1, 1957. They loved the Chi-cago Bulls and going to Dubuque Greyhound Park. Christ-mas Eve was always special at her house with bingo, gifts and awesome food. Virginia loved shopping - Ronald al-ways said it was her therapy. Ronald passed away in 1997. Virginia has three children: Teresa Hoeger, Bucyrus, OH; Gary Uhl, Dyersville; and Kathy Gudenkauf, Dyersville. She also has 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren she adores. Virginia and Ronald were always huge fans of soc-cer and basketball teams their grandchildren played on, of-ten attending many of their games. Virginia is a member of St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. On June 9, 2000, Virginia married Arnold Olsem. Virginia and Arnold enjoyed many trips together on Fidelity 5-Star bus outings. Virginia has always loved reading and working on word searches. At present she enjoys TV programs, phone calls and of course - family visits. She continues to enjoy bingo games, scenic bus trips around the area, and always finds time to visit and joke around with staff members. She is quick to make a good friend and has many. Keep those phones calls and visits coming as she always looks forward to family happenings and how every-one is doing. Congratulations, Virginia!
