VOLUNTARY SERVICE CAMPAIGN 2008 – 2010 ROGUE; TRANSMISSION RATTLE NOISE

This bulletin has been amended. 2010 model year was added and a note was added to Step 5 on page 9. Please discard previous versions.

    CAMPAIGN I.D. #: P9249

    APPLIED VEHICLES: 2008 – 2010 Rogue (S35)

Check Service Comm to confirm campaign eligibility. INTRODUCTION

Some model year 2008 - 2010 Rogue vehicles may have a rattle noise from the transmission at low speeds. Nissan is conducting this Voluntary Service Campaign to remedy this potential condition. This campaign will entail reprogramming the Transmission and Engine Control Modules (TCM and ECM) and, for 2008 models, checking the transmission fluid level at no charge for parts or labor. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Nissan has assigned identification number P9249 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

Dealers are to correct each vehicle falling within the range of this campaign that enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory.

  • SERVICE PROCEDURE

    REPROGRAMMING CAUTION:

    • Connect a battery charger to the vehicle battery. If the 12V battery voltage drops during reprogramming, the TCM / ECM may be damaged.

    • Be sure to turn OFF all vehicle electrical loads.

If a vehicle electrical load remains ON, the TCM / ECM may be damaged.

    • For TCM / ECM reprogramming, the C-III MUST be connected to the VI using the USB cable.

    • Be sure to connect the AC Adapter.

If the C-III battery voltage drops during reprogramming, the process will be interrupted and the TCM / ECM will be damaged.

    TCM Reprogramming

    IMPORTANT: Before starting:

    • Make sure ASIST on the CONSULT III (C-III) computer has been freshly synchronized (updated).

    • Confirm all C-III software updates (if any) have been installed.

NOTE: The C-III computer automatically gets applicable TCM reprogramming data during ASIST synchronization.

    • If you are not familiar with the TCM reprogramming procedure, click here. This will link you to the "CONSULT- III (C-III) TCM Reprogramming" general procedure.

    • TCM initialization is not needed for this campaign reprogramming.

    3/14 NTB09-126b

  • 1. Make sure to check for DTCs in all systems. Repair and clear as needed.

    • This bulletin does not cover repairs for DTCs. 2. Navigate C-III to the reprogramming screen shown in Figure 1 below.

    NOTE:

    • Do not use the “Reprogramming / Programming” selection.

    • Select the Model and Model Year, and then navigate to Direct Diagnosis > Reprogramming.

    • TCM initialization is not needed for this campaign reprogramming.

    3. On your C-III screen, look for a Transmission Part Number in the Part Number column (see Figure 1 example).

    • If there is no Transmission Part Number listed, this bulletin does not apply.

    • If a Transmission Part Number is listed, write it on the Repair Order and then go to Step 4.

    Look for part number here.

  • 4. Compare the P/N you wrote down to the numbers in the Current TCM P/N column in Table A below.

    • If there is a match this bulletin applies. Continue with the reprogramming procedure.

    • If there is not a match, this campaign does not apply or it has already been done. Close C-III and check Service Comm to confirm campaign eligibility.

Insert all the way in Fluid fill

    pipe

    9. Remove the dipstick. 10. Make sure the fluid level is at correct range as

    shown.

    • Any point at or between MIN and MAX is OK.

    • Drain or fill the transmission fluid as needed to obtain the correct level.

    CAUTION: Do not over fill.

  • OWNER’S LETTER (example of typical owner’s letter)

Dear Nissan Rogue Owner: Nissan is committed to providing the highest levels of product safety, quality and customer satisfaction. We believe our success depends on providing you with an exceptional ownership experience. To this end, Nissan is conducting two actions that involve your Rogue. The first is a Customer Satisfaction Program for the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in your Nissan Rogue that is described in the attached letter. The Customer Satisfaction Program is effective immediately and no action is required on your part. In addition, Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign on certain 2008 to 2009 Rogues. This campaign will allow you the opportunity to receive a software update that has recently been introduced on new Rogues. REASON FOR SERVICE CAMPAIGN Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign on certain 2008 to 2009 Nissan Rogues to reduce a subtle rattling noise that may come from the transmission at low speeds. On a small number of vehicles, possibly including yours, the transmission may make this noise. This noise does not affect the performance or safety of your vehicle. WHAT NISSAN WILL DO To address this issue, your Nissan dealer will reprogram the Transmission Control Module and the Engine Control Module on your vehicle, free of charge for parts and labor. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO Please contact your Nissan dealer to perform this service at your earliest convenience. To ensure the least inconvenience for you, it is important to schedule an appointment before bringing your vehicle to the dealer for service. Please bring this notice with you to your appointment. Instructions have also been sent to your Nissan dealer. If you have additional questions you may contact the National Consumer Affairs Department, Nissan North America, Inc., P.O. Box 685003, Franklin, TN 37068-5003. The toll free number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261). For additional information about this Voluntary Service Campaign or the Customer Satisfaction Program, please visit www.nissanassist.com. Thank you for providing us an opportunity to ensure on-going satisfaction with your Nissan.
