Greetings all! This year is passing so fast I cannot believe it’s July already. At the beginning of this year I was honored to have been nominated by our Board of Directors to represent FHEA for the ASHE Emerging Leader Award. On June 13th I was notified that I have been selected to receive the 2013 ASHE Region 4 Emerging Leader Award. This is indeed a great honor and I am proud to represent FHEA and ASHE Region 4. I will be receiving this award at the Annual ASHE Meeting in Atlanta July 21st through 24th. I hope to see you there! The 2013 Spring Meeting was held May 10th at the Hilton Resort in Daytona Beach. The Spring Meeting Golf tournament was held on the 9th and was a huge success. Although I was not able to play due to a recovering fractured wrist, I heard from many players that it was a great event and fun was had by all. A big “Thank You!” to all the supporting members who provided sponsorships that made this event possible. Another thank you to Greg Hodgson who once again coordinated another great golf outing. Way to go, Greg! The Spring Meeting was a success as well. We had a great lineup of educational presentations and table top exhibitors. And lunch was outstanding. VOLUME XXIX, NUMBER 2 SUMMER 2013 Another big “Thank You” to the Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors and the table top exhibitors who helped make this meeting possible. This meeting was strongly attended as well. It was great to see everyone there. As I have indicated, one of my main focuses as State President is to build our membership. We are working to set up a State Membership Committee. Lily Salkoff-Piner (Petroleum Recovery Services), who offered ideas for a coordinated outreach effort by supporting members to healthcare facilities not currently represented by the FHEA, has graciously stepped up to chair this committee. Lily, Alethea and I have met to discuss and plan how to structure the committee and its activities. We have only just begun but have a lot of great ideas not only for increasing membership, but improving member retention through our district meetings, some of which have already been implemented and shown to be very positive in District 2. Thanks to Supporting Member Ed Varnes with Sauer Incorporated, who was instrumental in providing ideas and pointing us in the right direction. It is my goal to present an outline of the program at the next board meeting and if approved share it with all districts. I am very excited about this program as it has great potential to grow our membership and make us stronger than ever. That board meeting will be held in Destin on August 9th where we will also tour the venue for the 2014 Spring Meeting. I hope you all have a great summer and again I hope to see you in Atlanta!

Although I was not able to play due to a recovering fractured wrist, I heard from many players that it was a great event and fun was had by all. Way to go, Greg!

The Spring Meeting was a success as well. We had a great lineup of educational presentations and table top exhibitors. And lunch was outstanding.

VOLUME XXIX, NUMBER 2 SUMMER 2013

Another big “Thank You” to the Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors and the table top exhibitors who helped make this meeting possible.

Lily, Alethea

and I have met to discuss and plan how to structure the committee and its activities. We have only just begun but have a lot

of great ideas not only for increasing membership, but improving member retention through our district meetings, some of which have already been implemented and shown to be very positive in District 2.

ASHE, the national association of which the FHEA is an autonomous chapter, is celebrating 50 years of “education, networking, and advancement for health care facility management professionals.” The four day conference taking place this year in Atlanta, Georgia on July 21-24, will kick off with a day devoted to the Chapter Leadership Forum and Awards, during which our state president, David Kovacs, CHE, will receive the Region 4 Emerging Leader Award.

The three days that follow will include 40 peer-reviewed sessions, including Joe Flower, renowned health care futurist. We note with particular interest that FHEA’s own Donald Paschal, CPMM, CHFM, Director of Corporate Engineering at Orlando Health will be presenting twice, on Monday and

renewal projects. Another FHEA member, Kirk Dickson, CHFM will be presenting on Monday with TLC’s Michael Sheerin on hybrid heating at Dickson’s facility, Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Register today for the FHEA Annual Meeting

www.ahcaseminar.com

The Florida Healthcare Engineering Association’s 51st Annual Meeting and Trade Show will be held Monday, October 7, through Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Hilton Orlando. For the 18th consecutive year, our annual meeting is being held in cooperation with the Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the Office of Plans and Construction. By combining the two meetings, we expect to have well over 1,100 attendees at this important event. AHCA’s two days of presentations on Monday and Tuesday, Oct 7-8, will focus on The Future of Health Care Design & Construction. The main speaker sessions will be complemented with breakway sessions in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, as well as important Healthcare Facility Engineering sessions on both days regarding design, code, and construction requirements for healthcare facilities. As in the past, AHCA architect and engineer reviewers as well as Fire Protection Specialists will be in attendance. This conference presents a great opportunity for you to meet and get to know these individuals who visit your facilities throughout the year, and to learn alongside them. FHEA’s educational session will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9. The theme of this meeting is Coping with the Changes in the Environment of Care. As always the FHEA Board of Directors has put together a program designed to help our members stay current on the important codes and standards governing healthcare facilities.

Register for any portion of this joint conference online at www.ahcaseminar.com. You can also make your hotel reservations here. Full programs details for both AHCA and FHEA are posted on this site. Payment can be completed with credit card online, or if you prefer you can register, choose to pay by check and print out the registration and mail it in. If you have any questions about registering contact the FHEA office at 407-332-7767 or [email protected]
