We held our inaugural Ted A. Crozier, Sr. golf tournament on August 17th at the Cole Park Commons Course on Ft. Camp-bell. We had 45 golfers partici-pate, and the weather was beautiful!

The net proceeds from the event will fund future scholar-ships. We are in the process of calculating how much money was raised. Many thanks to our Co-Chairmen Dick Noggle, Tim Powers, and Ivan Adames.

I want to specially recognize Henry Parham and Mickey Haynes, volunteers from the Double Bogey Charitable Golf Club of Clarksville, who assistedwith the planning and execution of the tournament. Their assis-tance is very much appreciated!A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the golf tour-nament a success!

On 18 August, twenty-nine members and one guest attended the luncheon at the Pioneers Memorial Complex in Hopkinsville. President Monroe Gildersleeve introduced our guest Mr. Richard Stanley, and welcomed returning members Chuck Webster, Ed Wilson, Bruce Kincaid, and Vivian Fivecoat.

Following the meal provided by the Pioneers--very tasty and in ample proportion as usual--CW4 Gildersleeve introduced our guest speaker, Mr. Richard Stanley, Manager of the Kentucky State Veterans Cemetery, West. Mr Stanley, who retired at Fort Campbell as a Senior Master Sergeant after a 24-year career in the US Air Force, gave a most informative presentation detailing the his-tory, role, function and rules of the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, West—the first of five such State-operated facilities now open in Kentucky. Following his presentation, Mr. Stanley responded to many questions regarding eligibility, honors provided, and whatthe VA pays for.

At the conclusion of his presentation and question period, MrStanley was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a“Bravo Zulu” award by President Gildersleeve. The Award cita-tion was read by CDR Ivan Adames.

MAJ Ed Wilson has agreed to conduct the Good-of-the-Chap-ter drawing each month starting with the current month. A total of$89 in donations was made. The winner, COL Hunter Clouse,donated the $25 prize back to the Chapter scholarship fund.

MAJ Dick Noggle recognized Young Park’s company for be-ing a platinum level sponsor for the Golf Scramble and for payingfor an additional foursome in the tournament. Young Park willalso be heading up the MOAA Chapter directory advertisingsales effort this fall.

PREVIOUS MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The Executive Committee met at noon on Thursday 23 August in the Kandahar room, Cole Park Commons. All Officers were present excepting CW4 Brian Lynch who was on duty. Topics dis-cussed included: 1. Sickness and Distress: Gary Ezell has been moved to the VA home in Clarksville to go thru rehabilitation; MAJ Becky Smith’s husband William is going through cancer treatment; MAJ Vivian Fivecoat has good and bad days; Nancy Evans is receiving daily support from her family; and COL Tom Borland has been having health issues; all should be in everyone’s prayers. 2. Flowers: we will continue to use Magnolia Florists; in the event a deceased member wishes a donation in lieu of flowers, the chapter will provide a donation of $50 in the member’s name. 3. Meetings: it is getting increasingly difficult to find venues and caterers to meet the $18 meeting cost; we may need to evaluate increased cost of meals in the future. 4. Legislation: TVET had been formalized with 14 organizations participating and 10 signing on to be formal members. Potential legislation for this year include adding back the second license tag for disabled veterans and getting a resolution to recognize women veterans annually on 12 July--the date that legislation was passed to include women in active service after WW2. 5. Scholarships: Chaplain Sumbler to assist COL Yaeger with the scholarship program. President Gildersleeve provided a list of ques-tions that are used for Naval Academy candidates as an example of what might be asked of poten-tial MOAA scholarship recipients. 6. Special Programs: 22 September is the Retiree Appreciation Day at Ft Campbell; volunteers to man MOAA table are needed.

The Fort Campbell Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America received good and fairweather at the Cole Park Golf course on Fort Campbell.

Chapter president, CW4 Monroe Gildersleeve, said, “Today’s Golf Scramble event was a greatexample of the MOAA’s and like-minded sponsors’ coming together to support our MOAA scholar-ship programs for JROTC students. Events like this Golf tournament are important, because it is anopportunity for different organizations to invest in the futures of our young JROTC students…enrich-ing the lives of these brave students is an important part of the MOAA Chapter mission.”
