2. A guest lecture on ‘State space analysis and its application in signals and systems’

was arranged for SE EXTC Students on 12th April,2018. Prof.Neeraj Seth,(senior re-

search fellow under space application centre ,ISRO,Govt. of India, VJTI,Mumbai ) were in-

vited as guest speaker. The activity was intended to highlight the importance of the subject

in the field of wireless technology. This guest lecture was organized by Pro.Arpit Rawankar,

Prof.Dattatrey Bade and Prof.Amit Maurya. The event was publicized in VIT in EXTC

branch, for SE students. Notice was put for the students on the EXTC notice board and also

informed to all the divisions of SE EXTC. The idea behind the guest lecture was to mitigate

the gap between the students’ knowledge and the industry requirements. The speaker

opened the discussion by sharing his experience in the field of State Space Analysis. Total

120 students and 3 professors attended the event.

3. A guest lecture on ‘Principles of communication engineering’ and its real time applica-

tion’ was organized by Prof.Prathamesh Mestry and Prof.Ankita Tondwalkar on 9th

April,2018.The activity was intended to give students an insight about the details regarding

real time applications in communication engineering. Total 36 students from div A,58 from

divB and 16 from div C with 2 faculty members attended the event.

4.A guest lecture on ‘Neural networks and machine’ learning for signal and speech pro-

cessing’ was organized on April9th by Prof.Ashish Shekhar and Prof.Ramarao . Dr.Nadir

Charniya were invited as guest speaker for the event. The activity was intended to give stu-

dents an insight about the details regarding how machine learning is implemented in

speech processing. Total 59 students and two faculty members attended the event.

5. A guest lecture on ‘Recent trends in networking’ was organized by Prof.Sayli Todkari

and Prof.Ankita Tondwalkar on 2nd April 2018. Mr.Yogesh Hudale (Founder

,Telenetwork technology) were invites as guest speaker for the event. The activity was

intended to give students an insight recent advancements in networking and its evolution.

Points covered in the seminar are as follows:

OSI Layers

MPLS Vs. ATM

Network management tools

Real time interactive with audio and video

Remote login

Recent industry trends

Total 96 Students and 3 Faculty members attended the event.

Research Topic for this quarter

Keeping data fresh for wireless networks

Algorithm provides networks with the most current information available while avoiding data congestion. Following Figure is for representation:

For wireless networks that share time-sensitive information on the fly, it’s not enough to trans-mit data quickly. That data also need to be fresh. Consider the many sensors in your car. While it may take less than a second for most sensors to transmit a data packet to a central processor, the age of that data may vary, depending on how frequently a sensor is relaying readings.

Engineers in MIT’s Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems are tackling this question and have come up with a way to provide the freshest possible data for a simple wireless net-work.

The researchers say their method may be applied to simple networks, such as multiple drones that transmit position coordinates to a single control station, or sensors in an industrial plant that relay status updates to a central monitor. Eventually, the team hopes to tackle even more complex systems, such as networks of vehicles that wirelessly share traffic data.

The team’s solution lies in a simple algorithm that essentially calculates an “index” for each node at any given moment. A node’s index is based on several factors: the age, or freshness of the data that it’s transmitting; the reliability of the channel over which it is communicating; and the overall priority of that node. node’s index can change from moment to moment. At any given moment, the algorithm directs the node with the highest index to transmit its data to the receiver. In this prioritizing way, the team found that the network is guaranteed to receive the freshest possible data on average, from all nodes, without overloading its wireless channels.

The team calculated a lower bound, meaning an average age of information for the network that is fresher than any algorithm could ever achieve. They found that the team’s algorithm performs very close to this bound, and that it is close to the best that any algorithm could do in terms of providing the freshest possible data for a simple wireless network.
