Set among 216 acres of awe-

inspiring coastal redwoods, CYO

Camp is a magical place where

campers gain self-confidence,

discover the wonders of nature,

and enjoy being young. For six

extraordinary weeks each summer

children ages 8-17 make CYO

Camp a special haven for building

memories and friendships that

last a lifetime. Located sixty miles

north of San Francisco near the

historic town of Occidental, CYO

Camp is a Catholic community

where, for 70 years, campers of all

religious backgrounds learn about

themselves, grow with others,

explore nature, and reflect with

God in a nurturing environment.

YOUTH PROGRAMS With programs rich in tradition, CYO Summer Camp creates an environment where youth can explore the world around them and develop powerful friendships that will last a lifetime. Summer days are filled with a large variety of activities including swimming, hiking, archery, soul food, tie-dye, gaga ball, sports, and canoeing. CYO Summer Camp staff host exciting evening programs such as talent shows, campfires, dances, and sleeping under the stars. Each day campers are invited to select activities that fit their individual interests. Every camper will experience an off-site excursion to either the Sonoma Coast or a local nature reserve. Age appropriate Villages ensure that your child will have the opportunity to create a community with kids their own age in a safe and healthy environment.

Villages

Freestone (ages 8–10) Named for a nearby town, Freestone is where the fun begins. Whether they’re experiencing a week away from home for the first time or the third time, Freestone campers grow unexpectedly and go beyond what they thought was possible.

Middle Earth (ages 10–12) Middle Earth is the place where campers explore their role as a steward of their community and our planet. Activities allow their interpersonal skills to flourish in this rich environment while fostering a sense of wonder and a deeper connection to nature.

Wildwood (ages 12–15) Team building activities, leadership development, and a community rich in tradition are all part of the unforgettable experience of Wildwood. Campers deepen their understanding of themselves, others, nature, and God in this dynamic environment.

CYO Summer Camp Staff The enthusiastic and diverse staff of CYO Summer Camp work together to create an unforgettable experience for your child. Many were campers themselves and have dreamed of the day when they would lead a cabin of campers. Our staff returns year after year to develop leadership skills, grow professionally, and be positive role models for the next generation. They embody the CYO Camp philosophy and share a passion for fun-filled adventure in nature. Counselors are mentors, peer leaders, and exceptional childcare workers who engage campers in activities that balance fun, friendship, responsibility, respect, and trust. Our dedicated staff is committed to making a difference in the lives of the youth they serve.

Teen Programs

Stepping Stone (ages 14–17) On the historic Miwok side of CYO Camp, teens reconnect with themselves as they unplug from modern technology and take a break from the fast pace of their everyday life. The last “step” before taking on a leadership role, Stepping Stone campers celebrate diversity while discovering their true selves. Each session features two off-site excursions to local natural sites.

Counselor In Training (CIT) Program (ages 16–17) Participants in our CIT program gain invaluable leadership qualities and improve skills related to self-expression, peer relationships, role modeling, and accountability. Throughout each session CITs gain responsibility and experience a feeling of accomplishment while mentoring young campers. In addition to hands-on leadership training, CITs will receive up to 70 community service hours and certification in CPR. Both the CIT registration form and application can be found at www.cyocamp.org and are required to register for this program.

As you begin to look toward summer plans, we are encouraging you to consider CYO Camp, the summer version of Caritas Creek. Caritas Creek provides a “Catholic School Discount” for families enrolled in our Catholic schools to show appreciation to parents who value faith-based experiences for their children. A child may receive the “Leadership Scholarship” from Caritas Creek, if they are nominated for this award by me or their teacher. There are a number of possible steps to take, so please follow these guidelines. Begin with visiting the CYO Camp website at www.cyocamp.org and click on “CYO Summer Camp” to obtain information and to register your child. There are a variety of discounts available through CYO Camp and Caritas Creek.

1. Your child may be entitled to one of the two following Caritas Creek discounts (only one may be applied, so you determine which one you will use):

• For the “Catholic School Discount” go to www.caritascreek.org and complete the “2016 CYO Summer Camp Campership Application for Financial Assistance”. You will find the link on the bottom left of the home page. Click “Other” under “Reason Campership Is Needed” and type in “Catholic School Discount” to receive the $100 grant.

• For the “Leadership Scholarship” go to www.caritascreek.org and

complete the “2016 CYO Summer Camp Campership Application for Financial Assistance”. You will find the link on the bottom left of the home page. Click “Other” under “Reason Campership Is Needed” and type in “Leadership Scholarship” to receive the $150 grant.

2. If a child is registered at CYO Camp by March 31, the student qualifies for

a $40 discount; it is automatically granted in the system.

3. Your child may be entitled to one of the two following CYO discounts (only one may be applied, so you determine which one you will use):

• If your child attends Caritas Creek this 2015-2016 school year (our

6th graders and our 8th graders), then you are entitled to the

Page 18: Volume II, Issue 28 Happy Easter TROJAN NEWS · Volume II, Issue 28 Happy Easter March 23, 2016 content is generated by teachers and staff. We are now at the point in the narrative

Outdoor Environmental Education discount “OEE” of $75. Merely use the following code when you register online: “2016cyooee”

• If a family is registering more than one child, or their child and a

relative or friend, the additional student(s) qualify for the “Friends & Family” discount of $35. The referring camper gets the discount, and the parent must call Camp 707-874-0200, ask for Emily Wood Ordway and request the “Friends and Family Discount” of $35.

4. If you still need more assistance, there are three vehicles to access:

• if you are unemployed or you think you would qualify for low income assistance, download the Financial Assistance form from the CYO Camp website, and complete it, and mail it to Emily Wood Ordway, CYO Camp, PO Box 188, Occidental, CA 95465.

• write a special request letter to Emily Wood Ordway, CYO Camp, PO Box 188, Occidental, CA 95465 or call Emily at 707-874-0200. Explain your situation and hopefully Emily may have an addition fund from which she can draw.

• go to the Caritas Creek website (see #1 above) and explain further under “Personal Essay”. Caritas does not require an income qualifier; we simply desire to help each family access summer camp for their child(ren).

I wish you the best. Thank you for valuing the Caritas Creek experience. And remember that CYO Camp is the summer version of Caritas! Blessings, Paula Pardini Founder/Board President Caritas Creek www.caritascreek.org
