Anya
(Twinkie, Adopted
June 2013)
Twinkie arrived at
AgHS in early June.
Later that summer,
she was adopted,
campaigned for
and won the title of
Senior Bark
Leader. Twinkie,
now Anya, has
served a model
Spokes-Dog for
shelter pups.
CaseyA Doggie Dental Case (Pebbles, Adopted October 2013)
Pebbles is a 5 to 7 year old Terrier, Chihuahua Mix.
She arrived at the AgHS shelter in late June dirty,
with ticks, and very sad. She even cried for her
"ma-ma" her first few days in the kennels. For
months, she has saw her kennel mates get
adopted and anxiously waited for each visitor to
take her home.
Pebbles was been featured in the newspaper and
on TV, but her forever family just hadn't found her.
Pebbles even was scheduled to be transferred to a
rescue partner to get more exposure. Sadly they
wouldn't accept her because of her bad teeth!
An AgHS donor heard about Pebbles and could
relate to her dental problems. Her beloved Cookie
had bad teeth too, so Cookie's mom agreed to start
Cookie's Dental Fund. This fund will pay for
dental work for dogs like Pebbles who need a
clean mouth to help them get adopted.
Pebbles had eight teeth removed and a drastic
cleaning on the rest. What was waiting for after
that cleaning was just what we had hoped for.
Pebbles, now Casey, found her forever family with
two-legged and four legged siblings - a family full
of love to live out her senior years.
Romeo A Medical Rescue Story
(Adopted October 2013)
Romeo is a young male Chihuahua who weighs less than
4 pounds. He arrived at the shelter with bumps, bruises, a
few scars, and a broken hip. AgHS was his only
hope.Romeo needed a fairly extensive orthopedic
surgery to alleviate the pain and allow him to keep his
leg. Thanks to Dr. Nieuwoudt, DVM, PhD and the crew at
Wellborn Road Veterinary Medical Center, Romeo had a
successful surgery.
Thanks to donors to the Dillon's Angel Memorial Fund,
Romeo now has a chance at a full, productive little
Chihuahua life. It is with your generosity that AgHS can
cover Romeo's medical bills and give a chance to others
like him.
Romeo is a little trooper. He went through 10 weeks of
rehab in a foster home which included hydro-therapy
and range of motion exercise. He finally started trusting
his leg again and he started putting weight on it, run
around, and even play with his foster siblings.
Throughout his pain, Romeo had always been a very
sweet boy, so the best news of all came when Romeo's
new mom was approved for adoption. She hadn't even
met him, but she fell in love with his pictures and his
story. He's sure to be spoiled.
Riggins (Carson, Adopted January 2011)
We adopted Carson, the beagle from Brazos Animal Shelter a few years ago
now. We went to the shelter just to play with the puppies and look around
and walked around the corner to this little guy shaking in his kennel and
crying. We immediately fell in love with him and took him out to play. We put
our name down on his list (he already had a few people interested in him)
and we got a call the next day that the first people on the list backed out, and
he was ours! We were so excited (while everyone thought we were insane for
getting a 3rd dog).
Shortly after we adopted him he got VERY sick from Kennel Cough. It was
touch and go for a few days. This is when I knew I'd love him forever. I took
steam showers with him to loosen up in airways and we nursed him back to
health.
We named him Riggins. He has truly become the sweetest animal I've ever
met. He loves to burrow under the covers and stare out the window. He loves
to lay in the sunshine and snuggle in your lap.
Now that we've had him for a couple years, I can not imagine our lives
without this sweet little boy. He is so full of love and I am so happy to have
given him a new home and full family!
- Vanessa and Riggins
Riggins Update: We have just moved to Erie, PA. Riggins was never a fan of
the Texas heat, and he is now LOVING his new home on the beach. He is a
seriously happy baby!
"He is so full oflove and I amso happy tohave given hima new homeand fullfamily!"
Spade (Adopted Fall 2011)
I adopted my amazing kitty, Spade, from AgHS (then Brazos Animal Shelter) back in
the fall of 2011 while interning there. She is the first animal I ever adopted that I
could call my own. Spade is a black with white, short haired cat with a diva attitude.
Her favorite activities include cuddling, eating her yummy cat food, and playing with
her string toy.
She loves to snuggle at night but always reminds me in the morning right when I
wake up that it is time for her to eat. She believes that she is the queen of the house
and isn't afraid to tell anyone who pushes her buttons. I am so happy that I got to
adopt this amazing animal.
- Lori, Former AgHS Care Tech Intern
Maggie (Adopted February 2009)
My family and I adopted our lab mix, Maggie in February of 2009. She was
approximately 3 months old and very timid. Now, she is the best dog we have ever
had. Her personality is wild, crazy, and incredibly loving. Maggie loves to swim no
matter how cold is it outside and play fetch until our arms are worn out.
She talks to us all of the time and of
course we have our own special
conversations that only we understand.
We were so blessed in adopting such a
perfect pet that has turned into our
favorite family member.
Since we have moved from College
Station, we joke that the only way we will
get another dog is we come back to your
shelter! Thank you so much for bringing
us together!

Stanley & Chester - A Love Story(Chaco & Oscar, Adopted February 2010 & May 2011)
Stanley came into my life when I adopted him from Brazos Animal Shelter in 2010. I
fell in love with his beautiful chocolate coat, his clear dachshund mix breed, and
happy energy. He was about 9 months then, and he so easily adapted to the life in a
home. He was quick to potty train, friendly with other dogs, and did well while I was
gone at class. My boyfriend (now husband) and I took him to the dog park every
weekend where he would run and play with other dogs. Saturdays were definitely his
favorite days! All of this running on the weekend was unknowingly our training for
WienerFest. On October 9, 2010, he won 3rd place overall in the male category. He
had such a great time at WienerFest! His success and good looks even made him the
picture featured on Brazos Animal Shelter's website for the event! However, through
all the weekend attention and exercise, after about a year of having to leave him alone
while I was at class during the week, we decided it was time for him to get a friend.
I went with my future husband to the Brazos Animal Shelter. There was "Oscar," a 3
year old dachshund, looking at us with big puppy eyes. I remember us looking at
each other and saying, "Well, that was fast!" We brought Stanley up to meet his new
brother, Chester. They got along well! We definitely knew it was a match when the
volunteer told us that he "sits up" like a meerkat. So does Stanley! What are the odds
of ending up with two dogs who sit like that?
While Chester was older and not as easy to train, the brotherly love between our two
boys makes it all worth it. We would take turns leaving them together at our places,
and we noticed how much happier Stanley seemed to have a friend with him. Chester
was craving our love and attention, things we were happy to provide him when he
joined our little family.
Come WienerFest 2011, our boys once again made a huge impact in our lives. Joey
proposed down on the runway in front of all of the Wiener Fest attendees. While
Stanley didn't earn a medal that year, he did gain a way for all 4 of us to live happily
ever after in the same house!
Brazos Animal
Shelter, now
Aggieland Humane
Society, will forever
be a huge part of our
lives. We have two
funny, creative, and
loving dogs and a
wonderful memory of
the start of our
marriage.
Thank you all so
much for what you do
to provide these
loving animals homes
where they create
memories and stories
like ours. Oh, and
also, thanks for
collaborating with
Joey to make the
PERFECT proposal!
(Our love for our
dogs gets to be
wrapped up in our
proposal story
forever.)
- Audrey & Joseph
Ranger(Adopted April 2010)
Ranger was adopted from
BAS, now Aggieland
Humane Society, in April
of 2010. Soon after we
adopted him, he had a
spinal stroke in which his
back legs were completely
paralyzed for 2 months.
Through all of his
veterinarian visits and
therapy, he never lost his
spirit. He was always
super peppy despite his
condition. Now, even
though Ranger still has
not regained full function
of his hind legs, he enjoys
being the mascot for our
local high school soccer
team as well as being the
center of attention. He has
definitely taught us to
always keep our heads
high. He has truly shown
us what unconditional
love is despite all of his
hardships.
Malachi(Adopted Fall 2011)
I also adopted Malachi
from BAS in the fall of
2011. He is a super sweet
sugar glider that
absolutely loves to be with
people! He has a lot of
energy, and he enjoys
being held. He is a great
education animal, and he
has taught a lot of people
about the care and
personality of sugar
gliders. His favorite food
is cantaloupe, and he also
loves hanging out in his
pouch with his friend Ellie.
- Lauren S.,Former AgHS Intern
"It was alittle sad towatch Simbaleave, but wecouldn't havebeen happierto see himgo. "
Simba (Adopted August 2013)
Mr. Simba, an adult, blond Chow Chow, arrived at the
shelter on April 6. He was featured as Pet of the Week a
few times. He lived in the kennels with his warm wooly
coat through the Central Texas spring and summer. He
turned on his charm at Adopt-a-Thon and at Mobile
Adoptions. He'd even been through heartworm
treatment in a foster home, and finally...his dad saw him!
Five months later, Simba road off into the sunset with his
new dad to live with a loving, forever family. His adopter
had lived with Chows as a child and knew Simba had to
be his. It was a little sad to watch Simba leave, but we
couldn't have been happier to see him go. Hakuna
Matata big boy!
Quincy - A Foster Story(Sport, Adopted March 2013)
Sport, now Quincy, is a 2 year old black and tan Mini-
Dachshund. Sport found himself at Aggieland Humane
Society in late 2012 after being picked up by Animal
Control. This beautiful, fun-loving boy anxiously waited
for a new family for over a month - but none came. See,
Sport had heartworms.
So, Sport was approved to undergo heartworm treatment
paid for by Tahoka's Medical Rescue Fund. Then he
went to live in a foster home to get healthy, learn to be a
very good boy, and re-gain trust in people.
If it weren't for our Foster Program, Sport wouldn't have
gotten the treatment he needed. It's because of our
Foster Parents that heartworm positive dogs can get
treated and recover stress-free, in a loving home.
It's because of our Foster Network, newborn puppies and
kittens don't have to spend their first few weeks in a
shelter with the possibility of picking up deadly
infections. And, it's because of our Foster Program that
shy, scared, and un-trained pets are given the
opportunity to become more desirable after living in a
home environment.
And desirable he was. Quincy's
family found him at AgHS all the way
from San Marcos. It was love at first
sight.
Tilley (Sweet Pea, Adopted August 2011)
When I first met "Sweet Pea" at AgHS in the summer of 2011,
she was described to me as part kangaroo (she liked to hop on
her back legs) and very timid. She sat up like a meerkat while
we were playing in the "meeting" room inside the cat house.
She came home with me, and we really didn't see much of her ,
she seemed pretty scared. We decided to name her "Matilda",
and just use "Tilley" for short. It wasn't long before Tilley found
her "person", my husband Doug.
My husband and I both have Type 1 (juvenile) Diabetes and
have for decades. We are both in good control and work in the
medical field, specializing in diabetes management. One night,
about 6 months ago, I awoke around 4 in the morning to Tilley
sitting on top of me, licking my nose. It startled me, and she
was lucky I didn't fling her off the bed. It was that moment that
I realized something was very wrong. To my right, in my bed,
was my husband having a hypoglycemic seizure.
I immediately jumped into nurse mode and assisted in his
treatment, and he eventually came around, dazed, but unhurt. If
Tilley had not woken me that night, who knows what would
have happened. I could have slept through my husband's
ordeal, and the outcome would have been much different. She
knew something was not right with her "person", and that mom
needed to know.
Even though she is not my kitty, I will always hold Tilley in a
very special place in my heart, and will never know how to fully
repay her - other than tuna and belly rubs, of course.
- Kelley
Bella (Adopted 2012)
She is the light of my life and she makes
me excited to come home every day.
- Miranda
Sheldon (Adopted 2012)
I only grew up with "pound puppies" that were
a girl's best friend and now we continue the
tradition of excellence with Sheldon.
- Leslie
Misty & Khloe -
"Pittie Love"
This Pit Bull Terrier mother, daughter
pair came to the shelter as strays. They
were both sweet, gentle girls who passed
their temperament tests with flying
colors, but it took several months to find
their forever families.
Bia (Misty, Adopted November 2012)
Bia is an awesome dog! We are so thankful and glad that we adopted her. We almost
didn't because we felt bad taking her and leaving Khloe behind. She won our hearts
over in hours!!
She loves having friends come over and play with her. She can play all day long, non-
stop! She loves running, walking, going for car rides. She loves her Kong toys and
loves to be in the kitchen while I'm cooking ready to catch or lick something off the
floor. She loves to eat tomatoes, bananas, and blackberries. And if she could have it
her way, she would sit in our laps all day and sleep with us. She is a great to joy to
have around the house!
Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Bia, she has been a great blessing, not
just to us but to Thor as well.
Khloe (Adopted December 2012)
Misty was adopted after three long months, but her new family was only looking to
add one new member, so her daughter Khloe had to wait a little while longer for her
happy ending.
A month later and the week before Christmas, a family who frequently visited AgHS
spotted the big blue and white girl. Mom said she knew it was mean to be. After an
approved application and home inspection, Khloe got to go home with her new family
which included two children to mush on her.
Mom sent us a message a week later, "Our little Christmas Miracle! Khloe is a
member of the family already....we LOVE her so much and the kids were so excited to
come home to an early surprise from Santa. What an amazing dog she is...she was
meant for our family and sent from heaven!!"
