As a summertime reflection, I thought you might enjoy the following, from the pen of Fr. David Allen, pastor of our neighboring parish of Holy Family. In Christ,
Worry Never Climbed a Hill
Worry never climbed a hill, Worry never paid a bill,
Worry never dried a tear; Worry never wiped up a spill, Worry never calmed a fear; Worry never won a game,
Worry never stopped the rain, Worry never added a second to a day or a day to a week.
Yet we all worry, worry, worry about some things we usually can’t control. Our heads worry about our worrying and our hearts ache. What does it accomplish? Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God and faith also in me.” (John 14:1) During this summertime what would it be like if we really would let go of worry and increase our faith in God and Jesus Christ? Easter joy has come and gone, Christ has ascended back to the Abba/Father and the spirit of truth has been sent to aflame us with tongues proclaiming the mighty acts of God. (Acts 2:11) It is a spirit calling us to be people of service, not fear, gifts not excuses, holy working not laziness or complaint, respect not racism. The Holy Spirit is given, “to each individual for some benefit,” some common good. (1 Corinthians 12:6) Wouldn’t this be a wonderful summertime if we would let go of some worry, anger, grudge or hostility? Let’s listen to Christ who spoke to disciples locked in an upper room of fear: “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. (John 20:21-22) Let yourself be sent this summer to “greet one another with a holy kiss.” (2 Corinthians 13:12) “Live as children of light, for light produces . . goodness and righteousness of truth,” (Ephesians 5:9) One of the best ways to let go of worry, to be a light and holy kiss, is by freely choosing to forgive someone, even if undeserved, as Christ forgives us sinners. Choose to bring peace to the heart of a child of God and realize we are all a part of his family, as imperfect as we may be, we are blessed Fr. David Allen The West Side Journal June 8, 2017

Celebrating Our Freedom
Heavenly Father, you have given us the gifts of life and liberty and entrust to your
people the duty to guard these gifts wherever they are threatened.
Help us to protect the freedom of all to follow the Gospel of your Son, Jesus Christ, and to bring his
light and truth to the ends of the earth.
Guide all who play a role in enacting legislation to uphold the
freedom of conscience of all citizens.
Send us your Spirit to inspire in us the wisdom and courage needed
to witness to the truth and to stand up for all whose religious liberty is
endangered.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Mary Immaculate, Patroness of our
country, pray for us.
In celebration of Independence Day, the Parish
Office will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th.
