Pastor’s Point

In Matthew’s telling of the events of the resurrection, he records that “an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.” (Matthew 28:2 NASB Updated) That is one of those details that I have missed over the years of reading this story. It is amazing how sometimes we can read and reread the truths of God’s word and “miss” a detail or part of the story. Then in a particular time of reading, the Spirit of God reminds us of the detail. When leaving the tomb before the beginning of the Sabbath, the ladies who were seeking to prepare Jesus’ body for burial took note that a large stone was place in the opening of the tomb. In Mark’s record of the events, Mary and Mary questioned who would roll away the heavy stone so that they may finish the work of preparing the body for burial. What if, knowing that the tomb entrance was covered with a large stone, the ladies would have waited. They could have justified their in-action by saying, we cannot finish because we have no way to gain en-trance into the tomb. Instead, by faith, they gathered their spices, and they began the journey to the tomb. When they arrived, they found the tomb open, and an angel sitting on top of the stone. It was if God was saying to them, “I am glad you came, because I have something incredible to show you!” As they arrived, the surprise and the wonder of God’s power was made evident to them. If they would not have gone to the tomb, they would have missed the blessing and benefit of seeing God in action. So, I wonder! How often do we talk ourselves out of going and doing because the “stone” is too big. The obstacles that we know to be present hinder us from even starting the journey. Faith calls us to begin the journey even when we know the obstacles are too large to be moved. Also, I wonder! How often is the angel of the Lord sitting atop the moved stone, waiting for us to arrive to an “open door”? This Resurrec-tion Day, will you start (or continue) your journey of faith in spite of the obstacles you know to be present? Will you dare to go find the angel perched atop the stone? Will we pursue the open doors, even if they lead to an open tomb? You see, the power of the Resurrection is that God takes the places of death, and He makes them a place of life and vitality. And the door is open for you and me to enter and experience God’s place of life. Just a thought,

Rick

I find myself from

month to month setting be-

fore my computer screen to

pen the next quip for the

newsletter. It is my desire

that it be a powerful point

from scripture that inspires

all to be who it is that God

has called them to be. After

all it is from scripture that

we gain insight on life and

how it is that we are intend-

ed to navigate from day to

day. With that in mind, I

think to myself, “does this

really make a difference?”.

Does the few words that I

can pen truly make someone

out there, think? And be-

yond thinking, do these

words cause someone to,

move?

The answer that

comes to mind is ABSO-

LUTELY! I am not pretend-

ing to be a Paul or one of the

many other writers of the

scriptures, but what if they

had those thoughts? What if

Paul had decided that he did

not need to pen the words

from Ephesians 4 where he

challenges us to walk in a

manner worthy of our calling.

He could have thought, well

they already “know” to do

that. So, without the delusion

of anything I pen being com-

pared to scripture, I write on.

I challenge. But most im-

portantly, I point you, the

reader to the Lord Jesus. It is

my earnest desire that

through this quip you find

inspiration to dig into God’s

As spring marches on I am reminded that in only a

few months it will be 100 degrees and we will be in the midst

of summer. And once again our summer is full of camps and

service projects. As we get closer to our summer activities

there are many ways that we can serve as Christ served us

and one of those ways is during preteen camp. As most of

you may know Rick and myself direct a Preteen camp for the

area preteens and we have extended the camp this year to 2

sessions. Session 1 is June 4th – 7th and session 2 is June 8th –

11th this full week of camp is a great opportunity for adults

and students to serve alongside one another. We need help in

every area from crafts to recreation to registration. If you

would like to help during preteen camp or during one of our

other summer activities, please contact Dustin. “For even the

Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to

give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

“When I die, tell others that I’ve gone to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ—

that’s where I am.”

Billy Graham

The complete (finished, total, lacking nothing), unabridged (not shortened, no omissions) dictionary, encyclo-

pedia, handbook, etc. In your lifetime, have you ever seen or read a book that fit the above description? Me

neither--except for the Bible. Whether it be King James, New King James, NIV, NLT, NASB, CEV, or any

other version, God’s word is complete. However, in spite of the advantages of having many versions to

choose from, it could take more than one lifetime to comprehend all there is in it, and that is why it can be eas-

ier if we focus on one topic at a time and glean all we can from what the Bible has to say about that one topic.

In his final book, WHERE I AM, Billy Graham chose to focus on one topic and that one was ‘eternity’. This

book shares what scripture has to say about eternity from all of its sixty-six books. And since Billy Graham

always responded to any questions asked of him, “The Bible says…” you can be confident that this book ‘tells

it like it is’.
