Hard to believe that the holidays have come and gone so quickly. Hope your holidays were blessed with family, friends and good health. I am ready for sunshine and warmer weather, enough of the snow, ice, wind, wind and windy.

I am planning on attending the Leadership meeting, I have learned a great deal the last two-years I have gone being on the State Council Board and am looking forward to hearing what they have planned for ESA this coming year.

Spring Board is just around the corner and am looking forward to being up at the Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center on March 7 & 8 in Allenspark again. Marjie Satterfield and I went for a finale run through, the weather was great and along the way you could see a lot of the damage that occurred during the flooding. They have done a fantastic job on the road repairs to get everyone moving again.

Plans are in the works for a hands on computer workshop by Candie Patino, so bring your laptops (bring power cords to charge those batteries) and follow along checking out the Colorado web page. We have an awesome web site and easy to use. Make sure you bring all your questions so they can be answered.

Many of you have asked about a workshop on chapter officer duties. Well, Candie and I have something to get you started. You will be able to download the files to your computers and follow along. It will be a project for you to do in your chapters since not all chapters are alike.

Hope to see you there, I hate to think that you might miss a great Educational/Workshop put on by Kathy Garrison or meet and talk to the Easter Seals representative who will be coming to talk to us.

Keep in mind that State Convention is coming May 16, 17 & 18 in Fort Morgan. Rita Martin, Marjie Satterfield and I traveled up north to meet with some of the Beta Epsilon sisters and all I can say is they sure have a lot of fun things planned for us. Make sure you talk to your chapter members on attending and get your registrations in on time. I have not missed a single state convention since I joined 20 years ago, they were all so much fun and loved getting the chance to meet and talk with other members who you normally don’t get to see.

Ongoing HOPE FOR HEROES project flyer was put in every chapter president’s yearbooks and hope you are planning on helping out this year. I am collecting ANYHERO cards at Spring Board and State Convention. These can be home-made or store bought, absolutely NO glitter and no envelopes. They should be cute and fun, they do not need to say Thank You on the front, a picture that would bring a smile to their faces would be great. You can say whatever you want to, thank them for their service, etc.

You're Invited...to St. Jude's Thank You ESA Day! We are delighted to announce that ALSAC will be hosting a “Thank You ESA Day” workshop and training session in St. Louis, MO on Saturday, March 29,

2014. You are invited to this meeting as a member who has helped Epsilon Sigma Alpha raise over 175 million dollars in cash and pledges for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The session will be held at the Sheraton Clayton Plaza Hotel in St. Louis. The session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will end by 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be included for the event. This event is being hosted by ALSAC so there will be no cost to you. This is ALSAC’s way of saying “THANK YOU ESA” and also for helping you to be among the first to know what’s happening at the hospital and to let you know how you can continue to help the children of St. Jude. Again, we hope you’ll be able to join us. Room reservations will be available for those of you who may have to travel a distance at a discounted rate of $99.00 for single and double rooms, $109 for triple and $119 for quad (plus applicable taxes). 2014 Proposed By - Law Changes

ARTICLE VII                      DUTIES OF OFFICERS (ELECTED AND APPOINTED)BE.   The ESA Foundation dues shall be paid to ESA Foundation by March 1 each year.This needs to be removed since Colorado State Council is now Life Active.(Subsequent section numbers will need to be changed)  Section 22.        The Golden Lamp Editor’s duties shall be: A.    Publish the Golden Lamp to meet all deadlines.B.    The Golden Lamp will be distributed via email and available on the Colorado web site. A paper copy shall be mailed to each active Chapter President and Council President, who have paid their State dues, and do not have Internet access. Complimentary copies will be mailed to Colorado State President, the IC President, and the IC News Bulletin Chairman for qualification to the IC News Bulletin Award.C.    Submit by State Convention in May the working fund balance and general accounting books to the State Treasurer for audit. Change item B to read: B. I continue to work on my “Symphony of Harmony” with your Educationals; I need your help with additional notes to complete the composition with additional chapters/themes. Here are some of the themes received so far.

“LEARN THE WORD THROUGH ESA”“NEEDLEWORK”“GASLIGHTS AND GINGERBREAD”“A STEP BACK IN TIME”OH, THE PLACES WE’LL GO”“FRIENDSHIP AND SERVICE”

I am looking forward to hearing from additional chapters and receiving their educational programs from now until the deadline of April 1st. I feel sure some of the chapters who have not responded are just what is needed to complete the music composition.

Please remember to keep your Chapter Educational Director in mind for the Distinguished Athenian Award. It is given to the Chapter Educational Director who has gone beyond the call of duty in her service to the ESA educational field. Please note that the deadline is also April 1st.

I hope to see many of you at Spring Board in Allenspark on March 7-8, 2014. Join us for a fun workshop, details are top secret!

Now it is time to be thinking about your Philanthropic Reports. If you are coming to Spring Board, in Allenspark, Colorado, March 7th and 8th, you are welcome to bring your PHILANTHROPIC REPORTS at that time, (You could also save some time and postage) but remember all reports are due on my desk no later than APRIL 1st.

Looking forward to all those reports! All your time and monies, all you have given of yourselves and having worked so hard for such good causes.

You are all very dear.

We are having a very snowy and cold spell at this time.

The wagon train rolled into the Lieberman's home for our Christmas party. As promised, the chuck wagon provided a full compliment of wonderful dishes.

Those of you who know Joyce, be sure to ask her what she is now storing in her BRA!!!

The wagons were in the corral until the ice and snow cleared up enought for us to sluch along for our meeting in January. Planning ahead for the year is always a day remembered.

We will be making more blakets for the Easter Seal Camp, and have a date set for our main fund raiser: The Spaghetti Dinner will be on March 11th. Please see any member for your tickets.

We were honored to have two guests who were scouting us out.. perhaps as prospective members??

As we have been doing religiously every month we turned in $$$$ worth of coupons for the troops. As us how our thumbs are!!

Four of us plan to attend Spring Board. See you there.

Beta Alpha hosted the Denver Alpha Council meeting September 28th. After the Council meeting, members decorated hats for Halloween for the residents of the Colorado State Veteran’s Home. The hats accessorized the costumes given to the residents during our annual Halloween Party October 26th. Danielle Freels Girl Scout troop helped with the party serving cookies and punch. The residents received a keepsake photo of themselves decked out as pirates, cowboys, soldiers, princesses, etc.

We delivered the Thanksgiving and Christmas cards made at Fall Board to the Veteran’s Home. The cards were very much appreciated.

December 14th, we hosted our annual Christmas party at the Veteran’s Home. Santa and his elves (two Boy Scouts) distributed Christmas stockings the chapter made along with pens and small notepads to the residents. Girl Scouts also helped serving cookies and punch. The residents received a keepsake photo of themselves with Santa.

Before the holidays, we attended a Bunco party hosted by Bonnie Young. Have a great New Year as we “Live, Love, Laugh”.

Our chapter has been busy since September with a salad luncheon in September, eating out at a Chinese restaurant in October and a Christmas potluck luncheon in December.

Three of our members, Cindy Starck, Maxine Smith and Hellen Hagel spent one Sunday at the St. Jude Dream House in October helping with the open house. We have been involved in several philanthropic projects including the Northern Colorado Council bunko party in October that raised funds for St. Jude and Wings (Easter Seals) in Loveland.

Our chapter also sponsored the team "the Zeta Chi Old Bags", in the Northern Colorado Give Thanks Walk in November, helping to raise over $92,000 for St. Jude.

In November we brought non-perishable food, toiletry and coats for the House of Neighborly Service in Loveland.

In December we collected money and food for the Larimer County Food Bank. Last month, January, we sponsored a St. Jude bunko party which included bunko games, a mystery box raffle and a bottle auction. This was the first time we had a bottle auction, which was very successful. This was a silent auction with winners getting wine, money, candy and office supplies in their bottles. Our chapter wishes to thank all those who attended the event, especially those from the Denver area chapters. We appreciate you taking your time and driving to Ft. Collins to support our fund raising events. Please put on your calendars for the fourth Saturday of January, 2015 for another day of fun, good food and bunko for our annual fund raising bunko party.

Our president, Sandy Beavers', educationals go back to the start of ESA, reading various books and discussing them.

Our first book, The Lost Wife by Alysion Richman, was a story about a Jewish couple separated during World War II, who thought each had died and whose paths did not cross again until they were in their later years. It was a fiction book, but based on actual people who were affected by the Holocaust and the treatment of Jews during this time. It was a very thought provoking book.

For February, we are to read books by Diana Davidson Mott, who writes murder mysteries with recipes for various dishes in her books. For the February social, we will be making and sharing some of those dishes from her books. Our membership continues to struggle with health issues. Donna Christie is now in Montana with her daughter, Barb Follett is in rehab in Ft. Collins and Helen Brautigam is at home, but unable to get out much.

We miss our Zeta Chi sisters and what they contributed to our chapters. Please keep them in your thoughts.

Chi Kappa held their Christmas Party on January 10 at the Outback Steakhouse at 92nd and Sheridan. Ten members and one guest-Betty's mother Lavelle -were in attendance and we really had a nice time. It was good to be able to just sit and enjoy one another's company. Gifts were exchanged with lots of OOOH's and AHHHH's.

At our regular meeting Rita Martin reported on her recent ESA trip to Australia. Too bad we couldn't all acompany her.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to member Phylis Vrbas in the recent death of her husband.

She wishes to extend her thanks to all for the numerous cards and thoughtfulnesses.

Denver Epsilon Council's February Pot Luck is coming up with Chi Kappa providing the paper products.

We are all busily working to get our reports in for chapter compilation.

Happy New Year!

Our chapter had the most successful Christmas Tea ever! We had 90 in attendance and the décor at the Manor House added so much to the occasion. We had a drawing for a “40” inch TV and the winner was so thrilled we thought she might explode. We hope you plan on joining us for our next Christmas Tea in December.

Our educationals this year are centered on Colorado Historical homes and we have been taking field trips to visit these places. These are the homes of many of the founding families of Colorado. They have been involved in natural resources ,mining, fine arts, social work and publishing. Colorado has so much interesting history and it has been fun exploring the state.

JoAnn and Kathy attended the Denver Alpha Council’s Christmas Luncheon. It was a fun afternoon filled with music and laughter. We also learned about the famous “Ice Castles of Colorado”.

We are looking forward to Spring Board to see our sisters from around the state.

Greetings to all,

Hope everyone had a good holiday. The chapter attended the Denver Alpha Council Christmas Party on December 7th that was hosted by 4 members of the chapter. The theme was “ The Enchantment of Ice Castles”. The entertainment were two readings about ice castles, one in Leadville, CO back in the late 1800 and the other one was in Minnesota. Each member received a snow flake to hang on their tree at home.

Zeta Rho celebrated with a Potluck Christmas Dinner December 14th at the home of Linda Maes. After we got through with the lunch we settled down to open our gifts from our secret sisters and catch up on all the news.

The very next day December 15th, Zeta Rho hosted a lovely Christmas Tea for the ladies and their families at Hearts and Hands Senior Care. The ladies were all given a lap robe made by members of the chapters.

All the ladies loved their gifts and felt very special.

We made sure that two children (boy and girl) from Rhonda’s church had a wonderful holiday.

We started the year off with our first meeting of the New Year on January 11th. There was a lot of business to catch up on. Laura Wilson gave her educational on Families and Siblings. She had researched all family owned business in the Denver area. She set up a board game with her giving clues we had to guess the name of the business. We all had a blast. Great job Laura.

Seven members made the trip up north to Zeta Chi’s Bunko Party. It’s always great to visit with our northern sisters. We all had lots of fun.

A minister in the Denver area challenged a minister in Seattle that we could raise more food and donations than Seattle could during the super bowl. What a great way to show support for our Denver Broncos. Well we had to show our support for the Broncos so the chapter made a donation of $100.00.

Our next meeting is February 8th; after the business meeting is adjourned we will put together tote bags for the homeless. Rhonda will preside over the Pledge ceremony for our new member Barbara McFeaters. An update on Barbara’s surgery all went well and she graduated from a walker to a cane.

How about them Broncos? What a fun ride their season has been.

We are pleased to have Sandy Alexander back from the Land Down Under. It would seem that she had a great time, and that the trip was successful.

We are continuing to keep busy supporting the Action Center, and serving dinner at their shelter. Sloppy Joe's were on the menu this time. Yummy!

A few of us went to volunteer some time with an organization called Feed My Starving Children. We spent the morning packing food bags that will be sent to third world countries. The information shared at the event was staggering. There is so much need in this world.

We had a great time at a social organized to celebrate Pie Day. We went to a pie shop in Littleton for togetherness and food! The pies were amazing.

We have some fun things to look forward to. A wine tasting, a fashion show and Spring Board! See you there!

Stay warm Sisters. Spring is on it's way!

Contest Rules: ANY ESA Member may enter. You may enter as many dishes as you wish throughout the year. Dishes must not have more than 8 ingredients. Dishes must make “THE JUDGE” say “MMMMMMMMM”. Winning dish each month by the time we go to press, will be published! Final decision of TOP CHEF will be announced

at the 2014 State Convention with a nice prize for the winner.

PREHEAT OVEN 350*1 (21 oz can pie filling) apple or cherry or blue berry which you prefer6 (8 inch) flour tortillas1 tsp cinnamon½ cup margarine or butter (I prefer the butter)½ cup sugar½ cup brown sugar½ cup water 1. Bring margarine or butter, sugars and water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring constantly for 3 minutes. (Sauce)2. Spoon pie filling in the center of tortilla, sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up the tortillas and place seam side down in 8x8 baking pan.3. Pour the sauce over tortillas. Bake for 20 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream
