49’er bulletin ~ november 2021 ~ issue #8Page 2
For the second year in a row, due to thepandemic, the Lane County StandDown for Veterans had to be cancelled. This is truly disappointing to those whoorganize this event every year and workso hard to provide our less fortunateveterans with good meals and servicesthey need going into the winter months. It is even more disappointing to thoseveterans who count on this event for ahand up. We are keeping our fingerscrossed for next year. The cancellation also means we had toget approval to redirect our FreedomGrant funds to another veteran-orientedproject. Fortunately, we found the per-fect recipient for our $2500 contribution, and that’s Veterans Legacy CampAlma. Founded in 2016, Camp Almaprovides integrative treatment in a ruralsetting to area veterans. They addressmedical and psychological needs ofveterans in a therapeutic agriculturalsetting located just outside of Eugene.Their vision is to break the cycle of vet-eran suicides, mental health disordersand social costs from the underservedexperiencing PTSD, substance abuseand associated traumas. Their philoso-phy is that healing and wellness is afunction of a safe environment, mean-ingful therapeutic experiences and amulti-faceted, community-based systemof extended care.We are pleased to contribute our $2500grant to help cover the cost of filling 3large propane tanks which are used toheat veteran housing among otherthings essential to running the camp.Thank you to Rick Armosino, our Vet-erans chairman, and member JoeRamp for this worthwhile idea.

been rained out. Keith Pearson in the past hasmanaged Elks Golf so I sat down and talkedto him about how he did this. His suggestion isto schedule it for a fixed time, date and placeeach month and ask Elks golfers to form upgroups to play or just to show up and pick upa group. So this will be our plan…We will meet at 11am at Hidden Valley thethird Wednesday each month. See you No-vember 17.
