conferring of an academic degree or

diploma.

To a mom, dad, or a grandparent

there can be no sweeter word in the

English language. To witness first-

hand the recognition of a child’s hard

work, long study hours and the

commitment to a prescribed course of

study. Whether it be a Doctorate

degree from an Ivy League school or

graduation from a pre-school there

can be no prouder moment in a

student’s life and that of their family.

But as with those things that are worth

achieving, graduation does not come

without a cost. Late nights of study,

hours spent in a library instead of

“hanging with one’s friends”, working

1, 2 or even 3 jobs to help pay tuition.

And let’s not forget the hours of prayer

and worry by family and friends that

the student will have the drive and

courage to complete the task before

them.

But now that graduation has come

there is one more prayer, one more

worry for the driven student, and the

disciple of knowledge.

It is an interesting fact that the

translation of disciple is learner, that

the disciples of Jesus, after calling him

rabbi, called him teacher.

So my prayer and the prayer of your

parents is that you continue to be

learner, that you continue to ask

questions and to learn all that you can

about this teacher we call Jesus.

That in all that you do, you ask the

question, “..would this be pleasing to

Jesus?” Run everything though the

spotlight of Jesus, whatever decisions

that you’re faced with, “Would this be

Madison will be attending Germanna Community College as the first step in her plan

to major in environmental science. She will then seek a master's degree in secondary

education. Madison plans to become a high school science teacher.

Music Ministry News From Elena Wood,

Summer is upon us! With the change of season, we will also see a change

in rehearsal times! The choir will continue to meet on Wednesday; but the

time will change to 7:15 pm. The change in time will go into effect the first

Wednesday in June, or June 7th. Summer will be a little more laid back so

if you have been considering trying us out, now is the time to do so! I have

challenged the choir to "Bring A Friend" through the summer so I hope you

will take the time to join us!

Men’s Father’s Day Practice Men are asked to stay after worship for a few minutes on Sunday, June 11 to go over a song for Father's day!

Children’s Ministry Events...

VBS Preparation Session Event

We will be making decorations and preparing crafts after the

New Staff Luncheon on June 11th. Anybody who wants to

help is welcome to come join in the fun!

Hello Bethel Families!!! Wow!!! May sure flew by with a quickness! Here we are in

June already… with a busy month ahead. I know all of your kiddos are looking

forward to SUMMER!!! We have a few things coming up on the calendar this

month. June 10th we are having a Family Movie Night at 6pm in the youth room.

The movie will be announced at a later time. There will be a special Father’s Day

craft for those kids who attend. We will be celebrating our dads on Sunday, June 18th. There will be an awesome

Father’s Day lesson in children’s church that day. Speaking of children’s church, as many of you already know I

have separated children’s church into 2 groups - Pre-k – 2nd grade & 3rd – 6th grade. This allows us to give more

age appropriate lessons to both groups and so far it’s going great!! We are also going to be getting into full swing

with VBS prep this month!! It’s not too late if you want to volunteer…we will be having a crafting day on Sunday,

June 11 after church. Come on by!!! Thank you for sharing your children with us!!

Business Meeting Minutes

The regular Bimonthly business meeting was held 17 May 2017. The meeting was called to order by Buddy Beard, Chairman of Deacons. There were 31 people present. The minutes from the previous bi business meetings were read and approved as corrected.

Treasurer’s Report Mike Carter presented the Profit and Loss Statement through April 2017. A vote was taken to accept the report provided by Mr. Carter.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Mike Carter talked about fellowship dinners on Wednesday night. He is looking for eight squads of people to cook the dinners on a rotating basis. Wednesday night prayer meetings will still occur, just a bit different than currently.

A motion was made Mike Carter and seconded by Carol Samuels to close the meeting. Buddy Beard closed the meeting in prayer
