The Year 12 Breakfast was the final function for Year 12
students before graduation at the Presentation Night
on Thursday 22 November
A big thank you must be extended to the Uniting
Church members that provided a delicious menu of
bacon and eggs that were appreciated by all
The breakfast was well attended by students and staff

Year 7 to High School Update
Recently the government has confirmed that year 7
public school students will be taught in high school from
Term 1 2022
The move will align South Australiarsquos public schools with
the national curriculum making it easier to deliver
subjects and improve outcomes for students
Access to dedicated facilities resources and exposure
to different teaching styles will also give each Year 7
student opportunities for deeper learning greater peer
interactions and greater independence and
responsibility

Retirements Announced Three members of staff have announced their retirement
that will come into effect prior to the start of the 2019
academic year
Annie Bainger has been a senior English and humanities
teacher at the school for ten years Although she has
been unwell in recent months her commitment to her
students has not diminished as she continues to come in
and help the Year 12 students finalise their studies Annie
has been the driving force for promoting student voice
through the student leadership group and she was
instrumental in organising and participating in Operation
Flinders
Two of our non-teaching staff are also retiring Our
Science Technician Leon Driessen has been with the
school for 11 years and apart from ensuring the supplies
and equipment are available for science practicals he
has provided support for students with learning needs and
overseen the making of the school wine
Ezat Loghmani is a relative newcomer with five yearsrsquo
service to the school but he has overseen some big
changes in his role as the Information Technology
Technician Ezat has kept the technology working through
floods and the introduction of the NBN No mean feat
2019 Planning
Planning for next year is well under way with senior
students having made their subject choices last term
Based on these choices we have been making decisions
on the subjects that are viable for 2018 the staffing
requirements and developing the timetable
Three permanent teaching positions have been filled for
2019 It is my pleasure to announce that Jasmin Ferraro
has secured a position in the Primary School The
allocation of classes is still being negotiated
The English position made available with the retirement of
Annie Bainger has been offered to Ashlee Pix who will
now be permanent at Oakbank Ashlee has had a busy
few months and was last weekend married
Congratulations to Ashlee and her husband Joseph In
2019 Ashlee will use her married name Mrs Ashlee
Ceravolo
Fire Season
As we move into the fire season it is important that
everyone is aware of the schoolrsquos procedures on
catastrophic days and during bushfire events
Oakbank is not considered a High Risk School therefore
remain open on days that are assessed as catastrophic
but there will be some changes in our operation
On days declared as catastrophic all school bus services
will be cancelled therefore you will need to make
alternative travel arrangements During the fire season
students should bring water bottles to school in case of
the need for evacuation
If a bushfire is burning on the day of a camp or excursion
and is likely to threaten the destination or return to the
school the excursion or camp will be cancelled
Please read the brochure ldquoBushfires and Your Childrsquos
