    Preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences

The week of November 18th has been reserved for Parent-Teacher Conferences with your child?s teacher. Please make every effort to attend your child?s conference. Parent-Teacher conferences are an excellent opportunity for parents to share important information about their children with teachers and for teachers to share about the progress of children in school. We look forward to seeing you at school during these conference days. As a reminder, students will be on a minimum day schedule Monday through Friday of this week. Transitional kindergarten through 5th grade students will begin at 7:45am every day and dismiss at 11:30am; there will not be a late start on Friday, November 22.

Tips for a Good Parent-Teacher Conference

    1. Plan for conferences. Jot down questions before your scheduled conference time. Glance over work brought home by your child and think about their learning style and study habits.

    2. Ask questions about your child?s schoolwork, peer relationships, and any class or school rules you might not understand. Concentrate on finding solutions to challenges and getting to know your child?s teacher.

    3. Share any information that might help the teacher develop a better understanding of your child. You are the expert! What you know will help us as we support your child this year.

    4. Decide with the teacher what, if anything, needs to be done to additionally support your child. Agree on plans, responsibilities and future steps before you leave.

    5. Talk with your child after the conference and share what was discussed - especially the positive accomplishments and successes shared with you by the teacher.

    6. Follow up. Keep in touch with the teacher. If the plan doesn?t seem to be working or if new challenges develop, ask for another meeting. Your partnership with the teacher will ensure success with your child?s learning.

Working together we make a difference in the lives of our children!

Please be sure to take a look in room 16 the next time you are on campus! Deer Canyon is building two Innovation Labs on campus, and the first one is starting to take shape! The Innovation Lab is a space where EVERY child can learn and grow through collaboration, problem based learning, and innovative learning opportunities.

Imagine a space with tables and chairs that move, combine, and flex into a wide variety of collaborative groupings. Imagine a space with floor seating, wobble stool seating, balance balls, traditional chairs, tall tables and more!

Imaging a space where children can brainstorm and record their thinking directly on the table in front of them, and then share that thinking with other groups of learners.

This is our vision for our Innovation Lab.

We now have two white board rolling tables, and two more are nearly funded! We have a beautiful L-shaped couch for students to enjoy. We have submitted additional projects to acquire flexible seating for our space! Want to learn more? Click on the QR code here to donate:

Our Innovation Labs are being designed as spaces for all of our children to access and work. We want to spark creativity and build strong skills of collaboration and problem solving while working through rigorous tasks! Lakeshore Learning has helped us to create a blueprint, and our generous community ? local and afar ? are helping us to obtain items for our Lab! Ultimately we anticipate an arrangement that promotes collaboration, problem solving, perseverance, and FUN!

Please help us reach our goal! Every dollar counts.
