Colleen Nicholas Board President
Happy New Year Arrowhead Beach!!
As I wrote in our last All Around Arrowhead issue, the APOA Board of Directors was very busy this past year focusing on the business of the Association. We look forward to even more exciting things this coming year.
Most recently, the APOA held our 2nd Annual Food Drive. Residents donated about 200 pounds of food to the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry. Thanks to everyone that donated. The Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry serves over 500 people a month, including children and seniors.
Again this year, we will sponsor the 2nd Annual Community EXPO on April 14th between 9 am-1 pm at the clubhouse. We’ll invite agencies around Chowan County to volunteer their time to showcase their services to our community and people across Chowan County. Please join us for this important event.
In July, members will decorate their golf carts, bicycles and vehicles to participate in the 2nd Annual July 4th Arrowhead Beach Parade. We look forward to doing it again.
Traditional activities such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Park Opening & Closing celebrations, Clean-Up days, and Covered Dish Dinners will continue. Members are encouraged to participate. Card night will resume Tuesday, March 6th.
On January 13, 2018 the Board of Directors approved the 2018-2019 Proposed Budget to present to the APOA membership for approval. Our goal is to ensure the financial strength of the
APOA. The Board of Directors worked for many hours to develop a budget that addresses the needs of the Association without imposing additional financial burden on members. We have vigorously pursued members that are delinquent in their financial obligation to the APOA and continue to work on your behalf in that effort.
Mark your calendar for one of the three budget presentations scheduled at the Clubhouse. Thursday, February 8th at 6 pm;
Saturday February 10th at 10:30 am and Saturday March 10th at 10:30 am.
On January 13, 2018, Becky Yaeckel, Nominating Chairwoman, reported the nominees in good standing to be placed on the election ballot. The Board unanimously approved the nomination of incumbent Board members Chuck DeMoulin, Colleen Nicholas
and Dana Nicholas for the 2018 election to be held this spring. It is somewhat disappointing that no other APOA members submitted letters of interest. Maybe next year?
As we enter the new year, there is so much more to be done. If this past year is any indication; we are well on our way to making our community an even more desirable place to live. On behalf of the Board of Directors - Van Dee Hetherington, Brenda DeMoulin, Chuck DeMoulin, Lisa Bullock, Kenny Nowlin, Dana Nicholas, and Steve Mullen - I would like to thank all the Arrowhead Beach volunteers and wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year.

The Watch Report By Dana Nicholas
Neighborhood Watch Committee Chairman
During the holidays, NW members kept an eye out for packages being delivered and left out on porches as well as neighbors who were out of town. Please consider your neighbors when you burn leaves and natural debris on your property. Excessive smoke from wet leaves can get into homes and can be dangerous for people with breathing and heart problems. Burning trash is never allowed. According to the North Carolina Forest Service, permissible Residential Burning includes “open burning of leaves, tree branches or yard trimmings originating on the premises of private residences and burned on those premises in areas where no public pickup is available and such burning is done between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and shall not create a nuisance.” Be considerate of your neighbors by being aware of the location, time and wind directions when planning leaf burning. If you are interested in volunteering on the Neighborhood Watch Committee, please email Dana Nicholas at [email protected] with “Neighborhood Watch” in the subject line. Sheriff’s Office: 252-482-8484. Arrowhead Beach Office: 252-221-8331.

Budget Preparation for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 The budget for fiscal year 2018-19 which begins May 1st has been completed and was approved by the Board at the January business meeting. Now it is up to you, the homeowners, to approve the budget at the annual meeting in
April. Budget presentations for members will be held in the clubhouse on Thursday, Feb. 8th @ 6 PM; Saturday, Feb. 10 @
10:30 AM and Saturday Mar. 10 @ 10:30 AM (both of these will follow the business meeting). The budget will be included in
the March/April newsletter for approval by the membership. The results will be given at the annual meeting on April 7, 2018. Please attend these important presentations to learn how your Association spends your money!
Something Beautiful Remains The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops, and yet it echoes on in sweet refrains ... For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains. Author Unknown
January sure has been a snowy month! People were “snowed in” for
days waiting for the deep freeze to thaw. Roads were closed, schools
were closed and even government offices were closed. Here’s some
general stats on weather in Edenton: according to www.bestplaces.net/
climate/city/north_carolina/edenton, Edenton gets 48 inches of rain per
year. The US average is 39". Snowfall averages just 2 inches. The
number of days with any measurable precipitation is 79. On average,
there are 210 sunny days per year in Edenton! Spring is right around
the corner!
This winter, some of our neighbors were faced with health concerns.
We wish them a speedy and full recovery. A shout-out goes to: Jim and
Bunny Brock, Margaret Tolbert, Catherine Gray, Carol Sheehan, Bill
Dunn, Brenda and Chuck DeMoulin, Barbara Burgess, Becky Yaeckel,
Gilbert and Phyllis Story, Ray Newby, Carol Sampel, Kenny Nowlin,
James Yarbough, Leon Hemmings, and Val Quinton.
With sympathy to her family, Dorothy Idell "Dottie" Royals Owens,
81, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017.
Condolences to Kathie Smith and her family. Her mother, Patricia
Anne Stanley Kirkpatrick, 91, passed away on Friday, January 12,
2018.
Condolences to the family of Jean “Cookie” Vick. She will be dearly
missed by her family and friends.
The 2nd Annual Fall Festival held in November was a success. Families
new to Arrowhead Beach joined the festivities as we celebrated the fall
season. Kids and adults alike enjoyed games, hay rides, snacks and
plenty of laughter.
Lots of folks attended the December covered dish dinner at the
Clubhouse. Chuck and Brenda DeMoulin, the hosts, made the
atmosphere of the beautifully decorated clubhouse even more special.
Photos of family and friends taken by the Christmas tree was an added
treat. Photos were added to the Arrowhead Beach Facebook page.
Join Dana and Colleen for the next covered dish dinner on Saturday,
February 3rd at 6:00 PM for an evening of great food and fellowship.

AB Community HighlightsAB Community Highlights The Ladies Of Vitality and Endurance, (L.O.V.E.) Group has been busy this year doing more charitable work for Chowan County. The LOVE Group participated in many
activities last year. They hosted information sessions with Chowan County Sheriff Dwayne Goodwin about a program for safe seniors and
Herb Mullin gave a presentation about the Inter County Transportation System. The LOVE Group women took field trips to local events and classes on various topics and initiatives like sewing edging on blankets for Project Linus, which provides new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18 and Senior Fest seminars at Chowan University. The group continues its charitable work by donating personal items to the military and veterans, household items to Open Arms Children’s Ministry and supporting Kids & Cops through money donations. There are too many recipients than there is room in this column to list what great work these ladies contribute to our community. We thank the LOVE Group for their dedication to Chowan County residents with kindness and compassion. Thank you Ladies Of Vitality and Endurance!
December Covered Dish a Hit! December’s covered dish supper was held on Saturday, Dec. 2nd, 2018 and was hosted by Chuck & Brenda DeMoulin. 32 people attended and feasted on homemade appetizers, entrees and desserts galore. January’s
covered dish was postponed due to weather and the next covered dish will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3rd and will be hosted by Dana & Colleen Nicholas. Hope to see you there!
Elections for 3 seats on the APOA Board of Directors are coming up in April. The March/April newsletter will be mailed to all property owners on or about March 3rd and will contain a ballot for elections to the Board of
Directors, the budget and a correction to the restrictive covenants. The ballots must be returned to the APOA office by 2 pm, Friday March 30, 2018.
