A history of innovation and leadership: Ergotron has been providing ergonomic computer mounting solutions since 1982. Our founder, Harry Sweere, pioneered the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA®) Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI) standard, defining mounting compatibility for plasma and LCD monitors and TVs. This standard is used by the majority of manufacturers worldwide.

CF is low cost, patented technology that delivers precise, fluid and easy motion. Whether moving a display up and down or tilting it from side to side, the user effort remains very small. CF means less friction is necessary to hold the display in place. As an OEM supplier, you’ll find this technology embedded in stands and mounts from the world’s largest-selling display brands.

“This technology is the culmination of many years of intense engineering develop ment and understanding our customers’ and the markets’ needs,” said Ergotron’s late founder, Harry Sweere. “The breakthrough design leapfrogs over conventional gas spring technology commonly used today, at a fraction of the cost. The CF design provides weight adjustability, which is accomplished by the twist of a screw. The adjustment can be made during the installation process at home or at the office. The weight adjustment process is so easy, young children can perform the task. Additionally, existing and new flat panel users can leverage their investment in displays by easily upgrading their existing mounts to more flexible desk stand or arm designs. These products will support a varying range of weights, thus eliminating the need to create differentiated SKUs for various displays.

Ergotron develops products that allow you to keep a comfortable posture when working with a computer. This posture relieves strain on neck muscles.

Optimal posture, screen height: For an optimal work posture when viewing a screen, the top of the screen should be level with or slightly below the eye height of the user. To make sure each user can set the screen height to their personal comfort, a monitor arm with sufficient adjustment range is needed. The adjustment range needed depends also on whether you will be using the computer for sitting or standing use, or for both. Use the chart (top right) to determine how much vertical adjustment is necessary for your application.

Optimal posture, keyboard height: The keyboard needs to be level with elbow height, with forearms and wrists in a level position. As with screen height, each user has to be able to set the keyboard height to their personal comfort. The adjustment range needed depends also on whether you will be using the computer for sitting or standing use, or for both. Use the chart (middle right) to determine how much vertical adjustment is necessary for your application.

Viewing distance: Set the distance to your monitor (“x”) based on the recommendations of the chart (bottom right) and your personal comfort. This distance is roughly an arm’s length. Ideally, select an Ergotron product with telescoping functionality.

Viewing angle: Tilt the monitor back about 10° to 20° so the top and bottom of the monitor screen are the same distance from your eyes. Make minor adjustments to eliminate glare as needed.

Laptop ergonomics: If computing for longer than an hour or two, take the following steps for ergonomic wellness: elevate your laptop so you can see the screen without bending your neck; connect a separate keyboard and place it where wrists are flat while shoulders and elbows are relaxed; pay attention to your posture.
