2018 4-H ENROLLMENT TIPS

https://4honline.com/

The new 4-H year is has begun and we have had quite a few phone calls about when and how you will re-enroll for the new year.

For members who are re-enrolling, log on to 4honline.com and complete your enrollment information. Please use the same profile information you created last year, (email address and password). Years in 4-H, age, grade in school, etc. will automatically be updated, you will still need to check and make sure everything is correct.

You DO NOT need to create a new family profile, please use the one you created previously. If you have forgotten your password, I can re-set it for you or you can change it your-self. Be sure and keep this information somewhere handy so that you can log on to your account whenever you need to. Enrollment fees are $12.00 and can be paid directly to the 4-H Office, the on-line payment option is not available, you can skip past the payment part of the enrollment. Be sure and continue on with the enrollment process until you reach the end where you click on the submit enrollment button.

There are many tools that you can use to manage your 4-H enrollment. You are able to add or drop projects without hav-ing to call the 4-H Office or fill out extra paperwork. You are able to access current publications such as newsletters and notifications. Take the time and explore the different areas of your enrollment, it's surprisingly easy.

You can also access instructions for enrollment on-line at: http://www.natronacounty-wy.gov/177/4-H-Program If you have any questions, send me an email or give me a call at 235-9400. [email protected]

4-H Leader Training Your 4-H Club in the Community

Tuesday, November 7, 2018 5:30 PM Midwest Room

ServeWyoming promotes collaborative efforts among pri-vate, non-profit and governmental organizations that ad-vance community service, volunteer programs and activi-ties in each Wyoming community. We also collaborate with other Corporations for National & Community Service programs such as AmeriCorps*VISTA and Senior Corps. ServeWyoming gives every citizen an opportunity to help solve our biggest challenges in disaster, economic oppor-tunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy fu-tures, veterans and military families. Training will be presented by Jessica Stanbury, Program Coordinator for VolunteerWyoming, monitoring and de-veloping the volunteer referral/match component of ServeWyoming. Since joining ServeWyoming in June 2013, Jessica has helped match volunteers with nonprof-its via Serve Wyoming’s state-wide call center and online matching database (volunteerwyoming.org), as well as through the Pro Bono Volunteer Network and the Volun-teer Guides. She also assists nonprofits through Volun-teer Management and Recruitment Trainings. Born and raised in Riverton, Wyoming, she earned both her bache-lors and master’s degree in Communication from the Uni-versity of Wyoming. She has lived in Casper since 2011 with her husband, young son Sam, and their two pups, Tag and Blue. Volunteers….bring at least one idea that has worked well or you’re thinking of doing in your club to benefit our com-munity. Be prepared to talk about how it benefitted the kids and club, what went well, and what you’d like to im-prove or do different. Please RSVP by Monday, November 6th if you will be attending. Especially for Leaders… Tips & Ideas for Successful Clubs Fall is very busy with starting the new club year, enrollment and searching for volunteers who will assist youth in a suc-cessful and rewarding experience. Below are a few things that you may want to consider for your November club meet-ings.

1. Check 4-HOnline to see who is in your club strictly observing confidentiality procedures.

2. Train club officers. Effective leadership practices are taught so youth know what is expected.

3. Install officers and welcome new members.

4. Assure that a “kick-off” project or activity is completed to motivate new and current members.

5. Continue to recruit project leaders and work with other club leaders on those projects, when appropriate.

6. Encourage project leaders to get started right away.

7. Have project groups each bring a skill-a-thon in their project area for a skill-a-thon activity in the next few months.

8. Check Monthly Club Meeting Calendar/4-H Newsletter Calendar. Being a club leader can be challenging but very re-

warding. We appreciate the time and effort you put forth to ensure youth in your club have a wonderful 4-H experience!

Here is an officer training booklet from Maryland Extension to help you train your youth officers: https://www.unce.unr.edu/4H/programs/clubs/files/pdf/OfficerTrainingManual.pdf

1. Place the pine cones in the Mason jar to be the base of the tree. 2. Wrap the copper wire around the Mason jar to add decoration. 3. Purchase or use a leaf punch or stencil to cut leaves from the paper. 4. Write on each leaf the things that your family is grateful for.

4-H Experiments! Dancing Corn Science Activity

Tall Jar or Glass {mason jars work well} Popping corn Baking soda Vinegar Water Spoon Save SET UP Put a dish or plate under-neath your jar! Save STEP1: To get started, fill your jar with 2 cups of wa-ter. Then you want to add a couple tablespoons of bak-ing soda to the water. STEP 2: Stir to dissolve the baking soda as much as pos-sible. Talk about what dissolves and what doesn’t. This could lead to a fun side activity testing different solids to see if they dissolve in water. STEP 3: Add corn kernels to the water and baking soda. Make sure to ask questions along the way. Make predic-tions as to what you think will happen. STEP 4: Now here comes the fun part of our dancing corn science activity. I would suggest adding the vinegar slow-ly. I filled a small party cup with vinegar.

DANCING CORN IS SIMPLE SCIENCE THAT’S PRETTY COOL TO TRY!

The secret to the magic dancing corn is the baking soda and vinegar chemical reaction. When baking soda which is a base is mixed with the vinegar which is an acid, they produce a gas! The gas is carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide bubbles lift the corn, but as the bubbles pop, the corn falls back down!
