Dear friends,

I want to thank everyone who participated in our first ever Career Fair on May 20.

We had a good turnout from the public and generated lots of publicity for our

chapter. For our first time attempting a fair of that magnitude, we did an awesome

job! I want to thank all of the board members and the partners we had for the

event for their work. We have solicited feedback from those in attendance and will

work on making the event bigger and better for next year.

We held our first after-hour event this week which was much more relaxing than the

Career Fair. I’d like to thank Crick Benefits, Inc. for sponsoring the event. For those

who missed it, we are planning on having another event like that before the year is

over. We are working on ideas now. We’ve also been invited to join the Lafayette

and Lake Charles chapters in a joint after-hours event which will be held on July 16

in Lafayette from 6 pm to 9 pm. This will be a great chance to meet other HR

professionals and we are going to market the event to SHRM at-large members who

are not affiliated with a local chapter. The Lafayette chapter has lined up a speaker

for part of the event that will be talking about how to network as a HR professional.

We’ll be talking more about the event at the next chapter meeting.

Speaking of the next chapter meeting, we will resume our normal monthly business

on June 17 at 11:30 at the Central Louisiana Business Incubator. Our speaker will be

Melinda Stallings who will be speaking on “Positive Conflict Resolution”. If you

haven’t been able to join us yet this year, we hope you can make there. This should

be an excellent presentation.
