Particular congratulations go to:

Textiles & Design 85% gained a band 6 or 5, and had a school versus state mean in double figures. This course hasn’t been run in several years so it’s a great result.

English Advanced had a greater percentage of band 6 compared to the state and this is the first time in a long time.

Legal Studies had 78% at band 6 or 5, maintaining this excellent standard over a number of years.

IPT had 70% with a band 6 or 5 and a school versus state mean in double figures – again continuing a trend of excellence over a number of years

Music 2 - 91% (4 students) gained a band 6 or 5 – an extraordinary result Music Ext 1 had 100% 94 students) in E4 – again, an extraordinary result French Continuers and Beginners achieved both band 6 and 5 well above the state.

The biggest difference in band 6 compared with the state – Business Studies, IPT, Le-gal studies, Mathematics General, Music Ext, PDHPE, Senior Science, Society and Culture, Software Design and Development, Textiles, French Beginners, French Continuers

The dux with the highest ATAR was Marie Echevarria with 99.7

We should all be very proud.

Josh Atkinson – what an athlete and what a result Josh Atkinson in year 9 recently attended the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships held in Cairns. He won the 400m and 800m under 16years event making him the fastest boy in Aus-tralia for his age. This is a wonderful achievement and we are so proud. We look forward to watching Josh’s athletics career as he grows. Congratulations Josh.

Farewell Donna Wood

We farewell someone who has dedicated her career to this school - for 3 decades, no less. She is the Head Teacher Languages, Donna Wood who will retire at the end if the term. Donna is the head of one of the few languages faculties in the state. Sadly and unbe-lievably, languages are dying in schools across the state and the nation - but not at CHHS. I’m so proud that this school continues to offer French and Japa-nese to stage 4, 5 and 6 students delivering a quality, rigorous, exciting curriculum that enriches student lives and challenges their minds. And this year Josh Hen-derson gained 4

th in the state in French Beginners in

Illone Windrim’s French Beginner course. How won-derful is that. Donna has led this faculty with passion and energy. This is her legacy to us. Our job after she has gone is to protect that legacy. She is thanked for her service to public education, fine teaching and her commitment. We will certainly miss her. She is such an institution here it will be hard to imagine life at CHHS without her. I know she will find quality time to spend with her mother, her grandson, Woody, husband Rod, travel-ling and finding the joie de vie in all that she does.

We have had a terrific end to the year and a most productive, eventful year in general. I do wish you all well and hope that the holiday sea-son allows for the 3Rs : rest, reading and recreation. I certainly plan for this with my family. I’m also look-ing forward to some quiet, think time. I also desper-ately need to catch up on so many books. Can’t
