Volume 2019 Issue #3 Fall 2019

It  was  impossible  to  warp my  head  around  the  idea  that  after

years  of  loving Mustangs,  I  could  be  lucky  enough  to  have my

own by the end of the day.

We  got  to  the  dealership  and  sitting  right  on  the  front  was  a

beautiful bright Competition Orange 2016 EcoBoost.  I like to say

it was love at first sight because I knew that it was the car for me.

We made a beeline for it and it was even better up close.  It was

perfect.

The  previous  owner  had  installed  custom  heated  leather  seats

with orange stitching to match the exterior along with tinting the

windows and ceramic coating over the paint.  In addition, it was

equipped with  a  great  performance package.    It was  the  car  of

my dreams and soon enough my dream came true.  On the best

birthday  I’ve  had  to  date,  I  went  home  with  my  very  own

Mustang.  I’ve had the Mustang for 5 months now and I drive it

everywhere.

When I first got my Mustang, my neighbor Steve Harrison, who is

the president of the Northeast Georgia Mustang Club, came and

introduced me to  the club.    I didn’t know what  to  really expect

having never been in an actual car club before, but I was eager to

join.    Steve was  kind  enough  to  sponsor me  as  a member  and

told  me  that  I  would  be  the  head  of  the  Youth  Mentoring

Program since I was technically the only person under 21 in the

club.

The Youth Mentoring Program of the Northeast Georgia Mustang

Club  is  a  great program where older members of  the  club  take

younger  or  newer members  of  the  club  and  teach  them  about

Mustangs,  such  as  the  history  of  the  car,  how  they’re made  or

the differences between each model and build.

Soon after  I  joined the club, my first ever car show was coming

up  at  YEARONE  Muscle  Car  Parts.    I  entered  my  car  in  the

competition and while I didn’t win anything, I learned a lot about

the club and met a lot of interesting people.

Ryan is the youth coordinator for NEGMC. He recruits and

provides support to our younger members and was

featured in the July edition of Mustang times. Ryan has

been very active in the club and will earn the President’s

award for 2019. Below is his story.

For  as  long  as  I  can  remember,  I’ve  had  a  love  for

Mustangs,  but  as  a  Junior  in  high  school  most  people

don’t expect me to be lucky enough to have one I can call

my own.   When my dad was my age, he had a 1981  LC

Coupe, and then later had a 2000 GT, so maybe it’s just in

my blood.

When I was old enough to start driving, I spent two years

studying and obsessing over Mustangs.  My parents knew

that  I  had  a  love  for  the  car,  but  they  had  differing

opinions on whether or not I should be able to have one.

My  dad,  having  owned  one  when  he  was  my  age,

sympathized  with  me  but  both  he  and  my  mom  were

understandably  concerned  about  how  a  17  year  old

would handle the power of a muscle car.

Eventually, after many long discussions and a PowerPoint

presentation even being made on why I should have one,

they decided that if I even were to get one, then it would

be  an  EcoBoost,  because  they  thought  a  GT  to  be  too

powerful.    I  had  absolutely  no  complaints,  because  it

meant  that  I  had  a  chance  at  getting  a Mustang  of my

own.    I  spent  months  looking  at  both  new  and  used

Mustangs  for  sale,  but  couldn’t  quite  find  just  the  right

one my parents and I could agree on.

On my 17th birthday, my parents took me up to the local

dealership to look at Mustangs, because they considered

me  responsible  enough  to  get my  own.    On  the way  to

the  dealership,  I  couldn’t  stop  fidgeting  for  a  single

second with the excitement.

Volume 2019 Issue #3 Fall 2019

I even ran into the couple who owned my car before I did,

which  was  a  really  cool  experience.    They  had  owned

EcoBoost  for  two  years  before  selling  it  to  buy  a  2019

Roush Mustang.

At  the  car  show  and  through  the  Youth  Mentoring

Program, I was immediately put to work helping with the

show.    I  was  put  in  charge  of  helping  direct  traffic  and

parking  cars,  which was  very  interesting  and  fun  to me

because  I  got  to  see  all  of  the Mustangs  that  came  in.

The  show was  a  huge  success  and  lots  of  fun with  over

120 cars in competition.

The next phase of my training was installing rocker panel

stripes  on  my  car.    Several  of  the  seasoned  members

taught,  helped  and  instructed  me  how  to  install  the

strips.    I  did my  research  on  line  and  even watched  the

installation  video  several  times.    I  was  so  impressed  at

how much I learned and how well the installation went.

Ever  since  joining  the Northeast Georgia Mustang Club  I

have  had  nothing  but  great  experiences.    I  love  being

surrounded by people who share a common interest with

me as well as being able to learn more about my favorite

car, the Mustang.
