T h e S t o c k b r i d g e A r e a Chamber of Commerce (SACC) will again this year provide one or more scholarships to high school seniors living within the Stockbridge Community Schools District. The Scholarship, for students who will be attending college, a trade school or another post-secondary institution, recognizes one or more students showing good citizenship, concern for the community and demonstrated potential for leadership. Students who have worked for the betterment of the Stockbridge-
Gregory-Munith community, e i t h e r t h r o u g h s e r v i c e organizations, the schools, or through their own initiative, are e n c o u r a g e d t o apply. Applications will be on file at the High School Student Services office and will be posted online by the school. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is April 12. The scholarship will be awarded in May. In past years, the scholarship award has ranged in value from $250 to $500.

Hello everybody, it’s that time, all is well here and loving life. Years of wondering whether or not I like to write and what to say is over, I love writing; it’s a wonderful way to express beliefs that are being established, and at the end of article you will have a new vegan recipe. Have you discovered yet in your own life that you want to be your own plan- maker, and God’s plan usually is not your plan? I have, I’m learning practical steps about living totally well in all areas of life, that trusting God is always a critical step. How about you? If you don’t
develop a relationship with Jesus Christ and learn to trust, the process in building character with new beliefs, for you will be a continued state of unrest and striving to do more and being frustrated. If you’re reading this you have an opportunity, like we all do to begin or continue learning about who you are in Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and you probably realize, that his recovery plan is a glorious way to live. In my own life I’ve learned to trust. Trust is not logic, reasoning, or

Here at the corner we’ve been hearing a lot about changes as it pertains to lending and the way we obtain the money to purchase a home. With these ever changing rules it’s hard to keep up. Here are a few things on the horizon… FHA
♦ Reducing seller concessions from 6% to 3%. This will mainly impact buyers of lower priced homes.
♦ Waiving the 90 day prohibition on property flipping. HUD recognizes that when investors purchase homes for rehab it can be done in less than 90 days
♦ Higher down payments for borrowers. This will only apply to buyers with credit scores 580 or less.

opinion, its trust, and I don’t mean blind trust. It isn’t mindlessly doing whatever you want and not having any idea what’s happening. Something we all need to learn is that God gave us the bible to be read it’s a map that will lead to knowing Him and He will direct your steps. If you know Jesus Christ and are committed to Him then you know the problem-solver. I’m not abdicating you don’t need to talk through things with someone, but your ultimate goal should be talking to Father God about everything and being led by peace. Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health; your very bones will vibrate with life (Message Bible, Proverbs 3: 5-7). I would say that pretty much covers it all, how exciting to know that God the creator of the universe removed all of my sins, and yours to. I know we’re use to using common sense, but even in this, we make that our God and then ask God to bless the mess. What about your body, you should have some understanding of the kinds of food that goes into your mouth, will this promote wellness or take away from it. Illness begins with persistence in ignoring what you already know to do. Ok, I’ve been there, and done that many, many times over!
God’s promise to heal illness is done his way and not ours. I suppose you could say it this way, illness is a blessing once you decide to take responsibility and decide what your plan of action will be. You see God’s principles are for everyone in regards to being made whole. Like you I’m learning what it’s like to be made whole every day, and it’s wonderful! Preheat oven @ 350 Bake 35 to 40 minutes Makes 12 to 14 medium corn muffins ♦ 1 ½ cup yellow cornmeal ♦ 1 cup whole wheat or Spelt flour ♦ 1Tbs. baking powder ♦ 1 Tbs. Psyllium Husk ♦ 1 Tbs. Today, the Michigan D e p a r t m e n t o f Agriculture (MDA) urged families to hop to their egg decorating and h u n t i n g t r a d i t i o n s utilizing sound egg food safety tips. "I encourage all families to follow a few food safety tips to make sure their child's baskets are filled with eggs that have been properly handled and cooked," said Katherine Fedder, MDA's F o o d a n d D a i r y D i v i s i o n Director. "Adhering to these quick and easy food safety guidelines will help make your holiday safe and keep your friends and families healthy." MDA recommends following these egg food safety tips: o Purchase eggs only from refrigerated cases. o Check egg cartons before buying and pass over cracked eggs. o Keep eggs and foods separate from raw meat, seafood and poultry. o Wash hands for at least 20 seconds in warm, soapy water before and after each step of preparation from cooking to hiding. o Keep hard-boiled eggs - peeled or in the shell - in the refrigerator below 40 degrees Fahrenheit for no more than one week. o Eggs should be stored in the refrigerator, not in the door. o Cook two sets of eggs - one for the Easter egg hunt and one for eating. o Use only food grade dye when coloring your eggs. The following is an editorial written by State Representative Barb Byrum (D-Onondaga). If you have questions about this commentary, please contact Rep. Byrum's office by calling (517) 373-0587. The struggles that we continue to face here in Michigan have been well documented. Too many Ingham County families are being squeezed, and struggling just to make ends meet. We need to do everything we can to jumpstart our economy and get people back to work. In order to do that, state
government needs to do more – a lot more – to help grow and attract new businesses and encourage entrepreneurship. Sadly, as the recent awarding of a sizable tax incentive to a convicted felon proves, Lansing has a long way to go. Our state uses a number of economic development tools to grow Michigan businesses and create jobs. Some of the
most successful tools at our disposal are the tax incentives we offer to companies to help them expand their operations or set up shop here in Michigan. These incentives work to diversify our economy by bringing businesses in emerging industries to our state. However, we must make sure that when taxpayer dollars are used to create jobs, that these funds are being spent wisely and appropriately. That has not happened. The Michigan Economic Growth
Authority (MEGA) recently awarded a $9.1 million tax incentive to Richard Short – a Flint resident and con artist who has been convicted of fraud in Genesee, Oakland and Muskegon counties. The State Police are currently investigating how Short was awarded this grant for his new company, RASCO, which had promised to create 765 jobs in Flint within the next five years. What is clear is that MEGA did not do its due diligence in examining RASCO's application. What is frustrating to me – and to you as well, I imagine – is how someone with such a history of scamming people could be awarded millions in taxpayer dollars. There needs to be much more transparency in this process, and accountability for those who award these tax credits. We need to get our fiscal house in order, and that first means eliminating waste and inefficiency in state government. In order to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are protected, I recently voted for the Corporate Responsibility Act, which will require mandatory criminal
background checks on those applying for state tax incentives. These background checks would include company officers, directors and managers, as well as persons with more than 20 percent interest in the company. This plan will also help ensure that these tax incentives will actually go toward creating jobs for Michigan workers. The Department of Technology, Management and Budget will, when awarding these tax breaks, consider where the work will be completed, and whether applicants will provide goods and services from outside of Michigan or the United States. At a time when Michigan families are being forced to tighten their belts to make ends meet, state government should follow suit and start treating every taxpayer dollar with the respect it deserves. The Corporate Responsibility Act must be signed into law as soon as possible.

The National Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle Association are co-sponsoring their thirteenth annual Bill of Rights Essay Contest for college-bound female high school juniors and seniors, which this year will be entitled "Freedom and Civic Virtues." Seven winners will each receive a $3,000 college scholarship and an all-expenses paid trip to NFWL's Annual Conference November 18-22, 2010 where they will network with, be mentored by and speak to hundreds of women lawmakers from across the United States. "This is an excellent opportunity for local women of the class of 2010," said Rep. Barb Byrum (D-Onondaga). "This contest will help seven young women enhance their understanding of the role of women in politics through a hands-on learning experience. It provides an
excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills while assisting with college tuition expenses." Entries must be postmarked by July 30, 2010. A selection committee will judge each essay and determine the seven winners. The judges will primarily weigh the factors of storytelling, understanding of the Bill of Rights, and original insight.
