LOEN Ladies ClubSince 2005 the LOEN

Ladies Club has been providing the women o f LOEN w i th th e opportunity to meet their neighbors and cultivate friendships. We do this by offering monthly activity g roup ge t - toge the r s including game groups, book clubs, and social g a the r ing s . Genera l meetings are only held a few times a year so that

the entire club can gather to socialize, share great food, and discuss club business.

We welcome LOEN ladies, whether you are a new or established resident, to reach out and find out more about us. Some activity groups meet during the day and others in the evenings, to try to accommodate all different types of schedules. The groups that meet during the day are Bridge, Daytime Book Club, Brunch Bunch, and Explorers. Our evening groups are Bunco, Book Club, Dinner Club and Girls Night Out. Our Angels on LOEN group is a community support group that provides meals to residents as needed due to illness, injury, or other special circumstances. We also facilitate a Men’s Group for LOEN Men.

If you would like more information or are just not quite sure that you’re ready to join, you can contact us for more information via email or ask how you can attend one of our activity groups as a visitor. Then, if you like us, you can join the Ladies Club! Dues are only $25 per year. Visitors are always welcomed at our general meetings and new members are accepted at any time during the year. ANOTHER GREAT SWIM TEAM SEASON LOE

DOLPHINS SWIM TEAM!

It’s hard to believe that the season is already half over! The swimmers are off to a great start and there is still a lot more fun ahead for all involved! Thanks to our coaches for all their hard work getting our swimmers ready for the meets and thanks to all our volunteers for making our events run smoothly.

For the latest information, please go to our website and click on “Meets and Events.” Come give us your support and cheer on our wonderful swimmers!

After the season ends, and our last meet was June 10th, we will be offering a Fall Swim Program for swimmers looking for conditioning and stroke development. Please check our website in late June for more information.

LOE wishes to thank the Dolphins for their hard work and dedication to their team and for being such a great partner in the planning and use of the LOE facilities for their home meets.

Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital welcomed its 100th. You may recall, Memorial Hermann Cypress opened just a little over 2 months ago. Baby Jasmine was born on June 3rd at 8:22pm, weighing 7 lbs 1 oz and 20 inches in length. Proud parents are Parneetpal Kaur, and Navjot Sahi. A big congratulations to all!

Lakes on Eldridge NorthDon’t Spend Your Holiday in the Hospital

Physicians encourage safety while celebrating Independence DayThe upcoming Independence Day holiday may have people

thinking about fireworks, barbecues, and outdoor activities. However, they are the very same activities that can make the holiday a dangerous one. In fact, according to the National Safety Council, Independence Day is one of the most dangerous holiday weekends of the year. Physicians and staff at the Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center in Cypress want to remind people to stay safe while celebrating.

“We see a lot of heat and firework-related injuries during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Parents may not think about it, but even sparklers can cause serious burns,” says Marco Garza, M.D., a Board-Certified emergency medicine physician and Medical Director of the Emergency Center at Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center in Cypress. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reminds parents that sparklers can burn at a temperature of 2,000 degrees.

The CPSC also offers these tips to use fireworks more safely:- Follow local laws- Do not allow young children to play with fireworks and

older children should have adult supervision- Never have any portion of your body directly over a

firework while lighting- Keep a bucket of water nearby for emergenciesIf a person is burned by a firework, the injury may need immediate

care.“Any burn involving your face, hands, feet, genitals or over a major

joint should get medical attention. If the burn is larger than your hand, or a blister forms soon after the injury, you should go to the emergency center or call 9-1-1,” adds Dr. Garza.

The summer heat can also prove dangerous over the holiday weekend.

“It’s no secret that it’s hot here in Texas. Spending too much time in the sun can lead to everything from sunburn to heatstroke,” reminds Dr. Garza. Physicians encourage people to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and take a break from the sun when possible.

“If you do choose to drink alcohol over the holiday weekend, it’s even more important that you also drink plenty of water. Excessive alcohol consumption can cause dehydration. Dehydration combined with the Texas heat can make for a dangerous situation,” advises Dr. Garza.If an emergency does arise, the Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center in Cypress offers a 24-hr emergency center at their location at 27700 Northwest Freeway in Cypress, Texas.

Ingredients 3 Pillsbury™ refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box (from 2 boxes) ¼ cup sugar 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened 2 containers (6 oz each) Yoplait® Original lemon burst yogurt Juice and grated peel of 1 lemon (3 tablespoons juice and 1 teaspoon peel)

6 cups assorted berries (sliced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries) 1 cup strawberry glaze (from 13.5-oz container)Instructions1 Heat oven to 450°F. Remove 2 of the pie crusts from pouches. Unroll and stack on lightly floured surface. Roll to 17x12-inch rectangle. Fit crust into ungreased 15x10x1-inch pan, pressing into corners. Fold crust even with edges of pan. Prick crust several times with fork.2 Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.3 Meanwhile, remove another pie crust from pouch. On lightly floured surface, unroll crust. Roll to 12-inch circle. Cut stars using 1-, 1 1/2- and 2-inch cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on large ungreased cookie sheet. Brush with water; sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of the sugar.4 Bake 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet. Remove to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.5 Meanwhile, in medium bowl, beat remaining 3 tablespoons sugar, the cream cheese, yogurt, lemon juice and lemon peel with electric mixer on high speed until smooth and creamy. Spread evenly into crust-lined pan. Refrigerate about 30 minutes or until chilled.6 In large bowl, mix berries and glaze until well blended. Spoon berry mixture evenly on top of cream cheese-topped pie crust. Place pie crust stars on top of berry mixture.
