The Knights of Columbus is a family-oriented fraternal service society of practical Catholic men.
A NIGHT TRULY FOR THE LADIES
W hile everyone was busy either getting
ready for celebrating Valentines Day, the
Knights of the Santo Nino Council were in the middle
of preparing for an evening of celebration with the La-
dies of the Council and friends. What a wonderful and
glorious night. Such a successful event can only be at-
tributed to the efforts and combined resources of so
many people, not only in the preparations for the occa-
sion but also for those who set aside this evening to
come and join in saluting and celebrating the ladies
who support the knights in their charitable and com-
munity work. Thanks to the committee, Gregg
Ravasco, Pete Escanlar, Rio Mercado, Jimmy Johnson
& Jim Alvarez who, together with the assistance of
their wives, were instrumental in the success of the
evening’s celebration.

On February 17.
2016 the Diocesan Admin-
istrator approved our re-
quest to underpin the
church floor and bell tower
after receiving recommendations from
both the College of Consulters and the
Archdiocesan Finance Council. The
underpinning project is estimated to
require three (3) months to com-
plete. Once the underpinned is done,
Caltec Flooring Ltd. will resume the
floor replacement project with an esti-
mated two and a half (2.5) months to
complete. .

LADIES NIGHT….continued
PGK Pete Escanlar welcomed all the guests
and introduced some new members of the
council. PGK Seb Koh asked everyone to join
in saying grace. After everyone had their fill
of the Filipino buffet prepared by the
Travelodge chef (tropical fresh fruit, fresh
vegetables w/ dip, strawberry spinach salad,
roast top sirloin of beef, chicken adobo, pancit
(noodles), steamed rice, vegetable spring rolls,
fresh rolls, coffee, tea, and assorted dainties
for dessert), PGK Joe Alejandria made a Toast
to the Ladies, then FDD Rio Mercado coordi-
nated the presentation of roses to the ladies. In
between, there were door prize draws and a
short JIBJAB presentation courtesy of Pete
Escanlar. After this, Jim & Susan Alvarez pro-
vided some entertainment in the form of three
songs which everyone enjoyed. Then we
played a few games including, “Table Scaven-
ger Hunt” & “Heart Match”. Finally, the floor
was opened for dancing and the evening ended
with karaoke singing. All in all, a good time
was had by all.

Message from our Grand Knight
Dear Brother Knights,
What is Lent? When does it
start and when does it end? What do
we do during Lent? Do we do what
we are supposed to do during Lent?
Why do we do it? Why don't we do
it? Does it matter?
As we physically and spiritually struggle to
give meaning to the season of Lent in our
own lives, may the infinite goodness and
mercy of our Lord, Jesus Christ, embolden
us to ask for His forgiveness and to seek
His ever constant presence in our lives.
Arnel Urbiztondo
Grand Knight
Dear Brother Knights,
With Easter soon upon us,
as Christians, it is a time of reflec-
tion and renewal. Our Lord's death
on the cross was for our redemp-
tion, and to renew ourselves in His
image.
The Knights of Columbus are the Right Hand
of the Church, and as such, we support our Clergy, our
parishes, and our Catholic Communities. The four pil-
lars of our order, Charity, Fraternity, Unity and Patriot-
ism are the guiding principles that direct us in our
lives. If we follow these principles, we can make not
only Regina, but the entire world a better place to live.
Santo Nino council exhibits these principles and I am
sure it will in the future.
God Bless!!! Vivat Jesus!!! Glen Piotrofsky

Message from our District Deputy
Glen Piotrofsky
A Sad Day
As Knights of Columbus, we very sadly mourn the
demise of our shepherd, Archbishop Daniel Bohan, on Janu-
ary 15 at the Pasqua Hospital after a battle with lung cancer.
His Grace was born on November 8, 1941, in Yar-
mouth, Nova Scotia and he grew up in Moncton, New
Brunswick where he received his early education.
He entered the Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax in
1963 and was ordained priest May 13, 1967. He had an Arts
Degree, from St. Thomas University, Chatham, New Bruns-
wick , a Theology degree from Holy Heart Seminary, a Sa-
cred Theology Degree from Universite’ Laval, Quebec and
a Masters of Theology Degree from the University of Notre
Dame, South Bend, Indiana..
He served as Pastor in several Maritime parishes, as
Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto, and as Bishop in his home
parish of St. Augustine’s Church, Moncton.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of the
Regina Archdiocese, March 30, 2005.
We will miss you, Your Grace!

EXTRACTS FROM POPE FRANCIS’ HOMILY
ON FEB 23, 2016 AT CASA STA MARTA MASS
Based on the books of Isaiah and Mathew, the Holy Father explained the "evangelical dialectic between saying and do-ing.” He stressed the words of Jesus, which unmask the hypocrisy of the Scribes and Pharisees, calling the people to do as they say, though not as they do:
The Lord teaches us the way of doing:
And how may times we find people--
ourselves included, who say, ‘Oh, we are very
Catholic.’ How many parents say they are
Catholics, but never have time to talk to their
children, to play with them or listen to them.
Perhaps they have their parents in a nursing
home, but always are busy and cannot go and
visit them and so leave them there, aban-
doned. ‘They say, but I am very Catholic; I
belong to that association.’ This is the religion
of saying; I say it is so, but I do according to
the ways of the world.”
The way of “saying and not doing,”
says the Pope, “is a deception.” Isaiah’s
words indicate what is pleasing to God;
“Cease to do evil, learn to do good,” and,
“relieve the oppressed, do right by the or-
phan, plead for the widow.”
